I acquired this item in 2003 not working, and subsequently sent it to AK's solid state genius, Glenn McDonald, better known as EchoWars. Glenn repaired and improved the faulty soft start relay, upgraded various resistors and caps, and re-worked the phono section to perfection. He also cleaned, and aligned the tuner, Deoxited all switches and controls, dissasembled the front of the unit and polished the dial glass and all the knobs. The receiver is now better than the day it left assembly. His testing revealed 53 watts per channel before clipping at 8 ohms, much better than the factory estimated 45 watts.
The asking price for the machine reflects a number close to what i have in it. I am selling because I simply no longer use receivers. The sale will include a copy of the service manual with Glenn's schematic of his mods and upgrades as well.
I believe that if you are into receivers, you will be quite happy with this one.

I think the 780 was the most popular of all the Pioneer receivers. They sold more and built more by far than any other model. The lowly 780 was Pioneers bread and butter. Actually there were 4 or 5 varations of the 780 not counting over seas models, you see it as a 790 as well only with a black background.
I've had several hundred 780s. For a two or three period not that long ago I did a lot of business with the 780.
