Does anyone know what frequency ranges the Bass and Trebble controls cover on the C220? Is the increase or attenuation consistent accross the band? Thanks,
Bill

Pretty sure you can download the owners manual in PDF format from the Mac website. Check it out!

Thank you Jeff. I allready have a copy of the manual, but I could not find any reference to the frequency ranges.

... but I must say that the tone controls in the C220 are very subtle (esp when compared to other McIntosh gear I've owned (like the C34V)).

My guess, based on listening to it, is that the treble is in the 8-10Khz.

But this pre is soooooo sweeeet sounding on anything you throw at it (figuratively speaking) that I rarely feel the need to use the tone controls.

Some of the newer Mcintosh product literature is seriously lacking in technical detail; the C220 tone controls being one example. Another example being the MDA1000, which has no specification of its jitter and jitter handling characteristic. For an $8000 dollar outboard DAC, I find that astonishing! Anyway, getting back to C220 tone controls, if they are similar to their older preamps, like the C28, they would give ±20 dB at 20 Hz and ±18 dB at 20 kHz.

Chuck H. was kind enough to email some charts. Looks like approximately ± 12 dB at 20Hz and 20kHz.

I've also been very disappointed by the lack of technical detail that McIntosh is putting into the more recent manuals. (Especially given the price point.) The MCD201 has balanced DACs and that information is not in any manual. That information would have resulted in me buying a MCD201 instead of MVP851 demo unit. I raised the issue on this forum and Ron C indicated that the manuals were a user's guide and not a place for technical information. This attitude really disappoints me, as most of the folks I know who buy this kind of equipment are very much interested in the technical details.
