Hi,
Installed a new cartridge and headshell on an old TT i picked up.
Tried to follow the manual for setting up the tracking.
It seems to be working well except for the start of the LP where before the needle reaches the song grooves it wants to start skating across the album. once it gets into the song it seems to be alright. I am assuming this is something to do with the anti skate but not sure if i should increase or decrease it.
thanks
shawn

1) What make and model of turntable?
2) Did you zero or "true" the tonearm before setting the stylus force according to the index on the counterweight?
3) Does the tonearm show any signs of having received an impact?

My Dual does the same thing. I use the Shure Audio Obstacle Course's blank band to set my anti-skating so that it just sits there as the record spins. But when the arm sets down at the beginning of an LP, it always goes over the lead-in grooves to the main program material. Everything sounds just fine, too. :dunno:

Make sure your platter is completely level in 2 directions.

Occasionally, this will happen and is quite normal as there is a raised "lip" at the edge of the album that is slightly higher than the rest of the LP. Depending on exactly where the stylus touches down and exactly where the lead in groove starts, the stylus may skip a few grooves until it rides down the lip and starts into the song.
