Why is this only available on a Japanese Import? I have an 80's CD Pressing that I found used a while back, and it has a bonus track that is not on the Japanese Reissue Pressing. Ironically the pressing I have is a CBS pressing that does not have the "Now Made In The USA" in the white upc strip, and was actually made in Japan for the US Market. The bonus track is an extended version of the title track. I wonder if this extended version of "Keep Your Soul Together" is available on anything else?

Wow, hold on to that CBS pressing. I have to believe that's been out of print for quite some time. The original album was put to vinyl in 1973 on Creed Taylor's CTI label. The recent 2003 Japanese remaster was issued on the 3D label....and quite pricey at that. The Japanese are fanatical about jazz and are constantly releasing titles on CD that were never before issued in the U.S on that media. I have no idea what licensing agreements have been employed by these Japanese labels and for all I know, these could be pirated copies. There's a lot of that going on world-wide. As far as it being available in the US, I have no idea who makes those decisions. Who holds the license for these old CTI recordings?
Cheers
PS. Did some research regarding the extended version of "Keep Your Soul Together" and could not find any info. Heck, All Music Guide doesn't even list this composition as a Freddie Hubbard original. They list it on Blue Mitchell's 1968 album "Collision In Black" and uncredited at that. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
