As promised, I received my "tube care package" from Tim today. And as advertized there are some KILLER rectifiers included; 1962 Westinghouse 5u4gb / 1953 GE 5u4g / 1956 RCA5as4 (5u4 variant) / 1959 RCA 5u4gb (blk plate) / 1963 RCA 5u4gb (gray plate) among a variety of other 6L6, 71a, 42, 43s.
Thanks Tim! I pulled the Sylvannia 5931 and dropped in that black plate RCA 5u4gb: Nice full, rich intonation that suits my delicate, atmospheric system perfectly. My RatShack SPL meter is reading 63-73dbs and the acoustic guitar is just / still digging deep, biting like the first Winter chill on your bones.

No problem Mike....I'm just glad after all this time of being little more than inert clutter, that they're in a loving home seeing use! :)

What else you wanting to get, I have access to about 500,000 tubes in different locations around DFW. Some are very reasonable and some are not. But send me a list and I'll take it with when I go to an Antique Radio swap meet next Sunday and a tube dealers garage sale the Saturday after that.
No sales before 7 AM!!!
I might go camp out like those Star Wars geeks. I'll see him at the swap meet, I'll have to ask if I can pitch a tent!

Tim is also doing some investigative prospecting for me, so I'll let you know what's up after I speak with him. I think he's going today to check'em out. Basically 45 globes are my main interest. Specifically, I'm looking for at least one (1) NOS or gentily used CX-345 Cunningham 45 globe.

You know...with all the thousands of tubes everyone is always talking about and throwing around. You would think that somewhere, someone could come up with some decent NOS Mullard 5AR4/GZ34s. Ya know, metal base, fat base. And not for the criminal prices that you see on E bay either. I just don't get it... :dunno:
I'll mention it to David, as he will be going to some meets the next two weekends. Just remember, that THAT tube is more popular (therefore more expensive) than alot of varieties.

While at the radio meet this weekend, I found a wellspring of globe 45s.....one of my antique radio buddies has about 100 of em. General prices range from $20 for a good testing one, to $80 for a mint 100% perfect one.
So the question is, how much do you want to spend?

Hi Mike:
Just wanted to stop by and say hello. This is a real nice site. Almost makes me wish I was still rolling tubes. Only have 4 left in my system - all in my DAC.
I'll stop in from time to time and see if the bug ever bites me again.
