Here's a very nice looking receiver...OK, it's better than 'very nice'. It's bloody beautiful. :)

The SX-1050 is the successor to the SX-1010 in many ways...an excellent tuner section that resembles that of the 1010, similar output power (120W on the 1050 vs 110W on the 1010), and the only thing that kept the 1050 from being recognized as the great piece of gear that it is, was the shadow cast by the TOTL SX-1250 which was Pioneer's no-holds-barred-massacre-the-competition entry for this lineup.

The 1050 uses a toroidal tranformer, like the 1250, and has two 22,000µf 80V caps. Like the 1250, the 1050 also uses a soft-start relay and power resistor to limit surge current at power up. Unlike the SX-1010, the SX-1050 has a vertically mounted regulator board that has none of the cooling problems that the earlier 1010 had.

Functionally, the receiver is perfect. Offset and bias are dead-on, and the protection circuit has been rebuilt with new caps and a new output relay (this circuit can be a source of trouble, so I'm making sure that the buyer does not have to deal with piddling issues that might cause problems down the road). All switches and pots have been thoroughly cleaned, and the receiver has been cleaned and polished inside and out (I should have taken a pic of the inside, as it is beautiful, but I'll let the owner pop it open and admire it :) )

I measured clipping at 149WPC, and at the rated 120WPC, THD+N measured 0.001%.

The wood case is close to perfect, and the front face of the unit is very, very good. Only a small scratch from stacking on the top horizontal section of the faceplate and a small ding on the top edge above the word 'Model' prevent me from calling the unit perfect. I'd rate overall cosmetics at a 9.3/10, and I'm picky.

(sorry...forgot to brush the dust off of the antenna :stupid: )

Price = $350, plus packing and shipping. If you are interested and going to the Fest, we may be able to work it out for you to pick it up in person.

This is part of Retro Stereo's personal collection...there will be others as time allows me to get to them.

Yeah..pics turned out fairly decent.

Sale is pending, as long as the packing charges don't scare anyone off.:yikes:

I don't mess around with half-assed packing, and it takes an hour and a half of my time to get it done right, but the materials are getting more expensive every time I go to buy them.

350. . .you stole it. . . I have sold similiar 1050s for twice that amount and made lifelong friends with the buyers. . . When I saw the price I was going to buy it but I came to the party too late. . . I was actually disappointed but knew it wouldn't last long at that price.

With EW's blessing. . .it don't get any better than that.

You bless that thing every night before you go to bed. Only play chamber music on it for 2 hours every day. . .

Could be a good price for a good home with a fellow AK member. . .Whatever the reason you need to buy a lottery ticket because your luck just changed for the better.

I agree 100% with EW's comments concerning the 1050 standing in the 1250's shadow. The 1050 is my all time favorite receiver with the 850 being number 2 and the 1250 being number 3.

You just might now own the finest 120wpc receiver on the planet period. . . 1050s in that condition are getting more and more difficult to find. I think they are rated "Scarce" anyway. . . On this forum we hear about more of them making it appear they are more plentiful than they really are. . .

The 1050 is the only receiver that I regretted selling every time regardless of how high it sold for. . . In my mind they are like a formal version of a 1250. . . I love'em. . .

Double Dang is right. . .Double Dog Dang ! ! ! !

Don't worry, this one has been getting babied. I have already given her two treatments of lemon oil on the wood veneer case.

I know you will. . .

Trust me. . .You now own a piece of audio gear that is virtually irreplaceable. . . Soon you will start taking her for granted which is normal behavior btw. . .resist the urge to sell her. . .

I bought a 1250 and a 1050 when both were brand new and kept them both for 20 years plus. I have driven speakers rated 4 ohm but dipped to under 3 on some frequencies to extreme levels for hour after hour with absolutly no sign of distress.

I have never owned a piece of vintage gear in this good of condition in my life and doubt I ever will again. There is NO WAY I will ever get the urge to sell it!
