While playing my ipod on shuffle sometimes at the begining of a song, it will skip or dropout for a second. What causes this? Can I fix it?

It will do this if move or jar the iPod vigorously or your music files are Apple Lossless format, particularly the older generation iPods.

Why what does a shuffle do to stop this?

Chip memory instead of a hard drive.

Only it does not have enough memory.

You may have a memory buffer problem with the iPod.

This seems to be normal with ipods. I've used two and both occasionally have a short pause in playback.

Well I updated the firmware and itunes, and so far so good. I have not heard a skip in the last two days.
