I have been hearing on the new lately that the FCC is going to force manufacturers to put digital tuners in their sets by like '07.
And all stations will have to transmit in digital by then. So my question is should I wait to buy a set until it has the digital capability built in. I am using my old 80's RCA set now. We can't get cable and I don't have satellite and only use it for picking up local stations. Will it still pick up the stations after they all switch. The local PBS station says it is transmitting in digital and it picks it up so maybe the question is moot?

Ya know, the pisser of this whole deal is that the FCC keeps setting deadlines and the industry as a whole cries it isn't ready so the government which is controlled by big industry pretty much bellies up and pushes deadlines back.

Anyway, to not "go deep" in politics I wouldn't worry about a thing. Your TV will display a picture still. It won't display the high definition signal though.

What you want to do is get a television or a projector (whatever the case may be) that is capable of displaying the 1080i signal. Even if your new set is HD "ready" that is fine. A separate box can be bought later to decode and output the super sweet HD picture. (HD ready TVs are much cheaper these days) High def is coming and as consumers we need to scream out that we want it! We need to push the industry cause they are seriously dragging their feet. I mean, you liked color TV when it came out right? Well, HD is to televsion what color was back in the black and white days. Simply beautiful and WOW!

Now go get yourself something new, real big and enjoy!! :D
