Just got a beautiful 2238B to add to my Marantz collection (2230,2245), (just starting, gotta start somewhere). Everything works like it should, I hear new sounds in music that I've been listening to for many years. I can't turn the vol past 3 o'clock (neighbors).
Not a problem, but does anybody have the 2238B manual, and can shed some light on what the FM 25 uS button actually does. When I hit it, it sounds like it adds delay, stereo is a little clearer. I tried searching on 25 uS in the forum, but no luck. I'm guessing it adds a 25 microsecond delay, but I wanted to know what the manual said about the button.
TIA

The 25μS setting is for altering the FM de-emphasis when using an outboard Dolby noise reduction unit in the tape loop, for decoding Dolby FM broadcasts. Since these ended 20+ years ago, the correct position is 75μS, the standard for all present North American FM broadcasts.
You can, of course, listen to FM with the switch at 25μS, and it won't hurt anything. But it's not considered accurate reproduction of the broadcast signal.

Hi,
The Marantz european receiver models do not have this switch, it is replaced by a "low" (high-pass) filter instead (see attached picture). This kind of filter is used to reduce turntable and other low frequency noise. Personally I never use it.
Congratulations on your 2238B. It's a very good "small" Marantz with fantastic build quality. I have put the word small between quotes because the 2238B sounds just as good as its larger cousins on any reasonably efficient speakers (90dB/W or better). On my Infinity Primus 360 I have to exercise some restraint to avoid complaints from the neighbors.

Thanks a lot for the info. Mysterious button is now understood.
Thanks, Bob

OOps, I just noticed in the initial post of this thread, that I said I could not play the amp volume past 3 o clock without bugging the neighbors (duhh). Do a 180 on that, I meant to say 9 o'clock, this thing really rocks. I'm afraid to go past even 12 o'clock, makes my ears ring.
