First off, love the site. I've gained a lot of great info here.

Got a few questions regarding a 4140 amp I recently bought. Basically what is the best way to run it 2 channel. i know there is an option on the back that allows it to run 25x4. 25wpc would be enough power for the speakers I have. Will their be less wear and tear in this mode? What exactly happens in 25x4 mode vs the regular quad mode?

Thanks, for the info. i dig the amp and want to make sure I am running it right.

Hi skywathc05,

My most favorite Marantz is the 4140 because of it's flexibility and sound. I also have the 4100 which is just as nice.

Make sure the power is off when you switch the "Power Mode" switch on the back.

The easiest way to run in 2 channel is to set the "mode" switch on the front to 2 channel. This will work with 1 or 2 sets of speakers. With the "Power Mode" set at 25w.

But if you want to use it as a dedicated higher powered 2 channel amp. Set the "Power Mode" to 70w. Then only the "Front speaker" terminals will work. In 70W x 2 Mode USE only the 8 ohm speakers. DO NOT use 4 ohm speakers.

I doubt there is any difference in wear in the two set ups. What exactly happens is that the power mode switch functions as a phase-conversion and power switching for BTL (Balanced Transformless Circuit) connection. You get what it sounds like, 25W x 4 channel or 70W x 2 channel.

I leave mine at 25W plenty of cool sound! What speakers are you using?

Here is a pic of mine all dressed up with the 125 tuner.

Thanks for the info. I have a pair of Klipsch Fortes. A buddy of mine forced me to buy them at a really good deal and ever since I have been in head deep.

A picture a lot like the one you posted is what drew me to marantz. Wow do they look good in the wood cases. And as a bonus, as I have discovered, they sound great too.

Again, thanks for the info. I'll play around with both set-ups.
