Neil Young
Live At Massey Hall (1971)
Released 3/13/2007
Label: Reprise
Genre: Acoustic Rock 'n Roll
OK, I'm not much of a reviewer, but this album of Young on acoustic guitar and piano is just plain fabulous. Many of the "new" songs performed here are now classics. The recording quality is absolutely first rate.
Anyone who is a fan of Young or of pristinely recorded acoustic music should have this disc. [I had actually forgotten that I'd pre-ordered it at Amazon. I got home from work today and there it was on the back step. What a perfect way to spend an evening]
There is also a DVD in the package. I'm sure it's nice. I haven't got to that yet...
That is all.

Lately I'm beginning to find that I like a good live recording more than studio work. It just seems so much more alive. Obviously there are exceptions, some people/groups sound like canned fecal matter live but the true masters are far more "present" when its live than any amount of studio polish can provide or improve on.

Steve...
I just bought this new the other day and I do not often buy new CDs. It is just a wonderful recording. Not a huge Neil Young fan overall but I really enjoy his early stuff. And the recording is superb.
Now, time to get out my Buffalo Springfield albums!

I just picked this CD and DVD up today, I always loved Neil's stuff, and this is simply wonderful. Inside it mentions N.Y. The Archives Vol 1 1963-1972, an 8 CD 2 DVD collection. I will have to have this..
but as for Massey Hall. It is a must have

'Massey Hall 1971' arrived in my house this morning as a much-requested Father's Day present. Fantastic! Not only is it wonderfully done, but it gives a whole lot more insight into songs I've known all my adult life. I was actually supposed to go to that concert, but my mum wouldn't let me! Finally got to hear it anyway, 36 years or so late; worth the wait!

One of the best of 1971 and 2007.
This man is soul.

This CD is such a wonderful time-warp. Wish I could go back in time!
So cool to hear Neal introducing new songs that are now classics (as already mentioned by others).
Really fun to listen to. Great recording.

I have it on my iPod. It's a quite nice recording and reminds me a lot of the bootleg my brother had/has from back in the the early 70s "I'm Happy that y'all came down". But it sounds MUCH better than the old boot...
Neils's good stuff. I've only seen him twice, and the last time was the "Live Rust" tour 30+ years ago.
