View Full Version : Picked up my replacement mcd-201 today
Daytripper 03-17-2007, 11:48 PM Picked up my replacement mcd-201 today, I have played ten cd's that were giving my old player fits! I am happy to report that the new unit (Feb. 07 #Wm2179) Is performing flawlessly! The transport is extremely quiet, much quieter than my older model which was pretty silent! This is what I expected from Mcintosh to start with:thmbsp: I sure hope it stays this way:yes:
This is one awesome sounding unit:music:
Oh while at the Mac dealer I auditioned the new 871 through the new Mac projector! Very, very very nice:thmbsp: I am not a video fanatic but I am not convinced that the future will be Blue.

MCBrennan 03-18-2007, 06:53 AM That's great news, and, I imagine, equally appreciated by McIntosh.
Please keep us posted as you play and enjoy more CD's. I have been waiting and hoping to read a post that shared performance results of the newest MCD201 model. With the many fixes that were applied to previously purchased units [as discussed in previous threads], it will be most interesting to see how a new model responds to these fixes having been applied during the manufacturing process.
Enjoy!
jdcheek 03-18-2007, 07:09 AM I got my 201 in mid January and have had none of the issues posted in the fourth quarter of last year. And I do sense that it has sounded better as it get more hours on it.

Thank you, I will post on it's reliability good or bad! I initially brought a mcd 201 home on Jan. 30th. Elation:yippy: was quickly followed by a:sigh:and:worried: I am so glad that I stayed calm although rather:grumpy: and waited patiently for a new unit.
I have had the new unit less than 24 hours yet the problems I had are quickly melting away and turning to :yippy: again.
Time to start enjoying my system as it truely is what I have dreamt about in the past:D

jmajma 03-18-2007, 01:25 PM You'll see, it's a great CDP;I've got mine since 1 year, and it brought me a huge amount of beautiful music; during this period, I've had less than 10 problems, and I'm sure some are due to the CDs. But what a terrific sound!
Jean-Marc.

Grogger 03-19-2007, 09:33 AM Glad to hear that your replacment Mcd-201 is performing well:music: I went through 3 Mcd-201s starting with the first one in March 2006, last one in January 2007. All of them had problems with firmware, tracking, the first two had transport noise. I gave up and upgraded to the Mvp-871 universal disc player February 2007. I am glad Mcintosh fixed the problems with the Mcd-201:yes:
Thanks Grogger.

My new one comes Thursday. This is the 4th try. Is yours still ok?
Thanks

I'll chime in at this point.I recieved my MCD 201 on 3/9/07.It was manufactured in Feb.07 The serial # is WM2182.Over the last several days,it has locked up on several CD's that it had been playing without a problem. As with everyone out there, I have a large stake in my McIntosh gear .I love the sound and the looks of the three pieces. My new C2200 and MC252(soon to be 501s) work great. The 201 does not, and at this point in the product run, it should.

Yes it is, not the slightest problem so far! Still very quiet also.
I was talking to my dealer a week ago he mentioned that he cannot get my 1st unit to skip or screw up very strange since it was giving me problems regularly although it did have good streaks. I am wondering if these units are very sensitive to shaking or ? wish I would have unplugged my problem unit and rotated all different directions then a firm sit down on its feet maybe that would have fixed it who knows!
I do not like hearing that a unit 3 after mine is locking up though! I am starting to think shipping may be part of the problem. Maybe Mcintosh needs to lock down the transport somehow.

howiebrou 04-03-2007, 07:56 PM A couple of things concern me;
1. That Mcintosh allowed a player onto the market which had these problems. I believe that firmware updates etc should not be necessary when you buy a Mc branded player much less any player in this price range.
2. That Mc appears to have fixed the problem for some players but not others. It seems as though QC is not working as it should.
I believe Mc should ensure that its products are at least consistent (of course consistently good is preferable) but to produce inconsistent players even at this stage of production is a bit strange.
I am wondering why some players are quiet and others are not. Did the Mc factory actually change anything lately to make them quieter or has production continued in exactly the same way? I am sure that Mc is aware of the problems and has tried to investigate the reasons. It would be interesting to see if anything was actually changed.:scratch2:

Thanks for the feed back. The problem with the skipping and freezing seems to come in waves set off by a disc that befuddles it. If I play Love by the Beatles it will skip and generally anything I play after will skip as well. Right now it has gone about a month with no issues and when I first got this unit it was good for a month or so then started skipping. The point is that there is definitely no consistency as to when or why. The ONLY failure consistency that I have found is the Love CD. I bought two different copies and have no problems with them in any other players.
Round 4 begins tomorrow.
