Greetings,

I recently acquired a G-6700. Once in a while the left channel cuts out entirely, whether in Speaker A or Speaker B. If I turn on the "Source Monitor", the left channel comes back. Three questions follow:

1) Why is the left channel cutting out?
2) What is the intended purpose of the Source Monitor button?
3) Where might I procure a G-6700 manual so as to fully understand this otherwise amazing piece of equipment?

Thank you kindly in advance.

I would clean all the buttons knobs and switches with deoxit, especially the source monitor one.

Look at Mordens' Sansui Database website. I believe he has a free service manual for the G-6700 for download there.

Good luck!

In answer to question #2: When working properly, it's only supposed to be relevant when recording. When it's on, you switch your playback mode from monitoring the actual tape recording to monitoring whatever it is you're recording (i.e., the "source") IIRC, it should always be engaged if doing anything other than recording. I'm not sure if you should get any output if trying to just listening to something without the "source monitor" on. I used to record onto tape all the time, but sadly, it's been a while.

BTW - Welcome to AK!!
