Are 1000 and 1000a tubes, or an acceptable replacememt, readily available?
I'd like to get a tube amp and am thinking of one of the two. My first receiver (many years ago) was a 1000 I think. Either that or a 1000a. Would be nice to still have it.
Thanks
Mike

Tubes for the 1000A are 7591 and can be had as NOS (New Old Stock) but are pricey and hard to get, Russia is making new replacements but some so called 7591 replacements are nothing but re-based 6L6GT's.:sigh:
As for the 1000 it uses a "TV sweep" tube of some type having a top cap connection, as for the availability of this tube, I haven’t a clue.
Others can fine-tune this info for you.
I have a 1000A in my main system and coupled with sub woofer it really sings!:smoke:
P.S. Don't run your 1000A before replacing ALL of the grey "oil" capacitors, they WILL be bad and will do damage if not removed from the set!

Genuine new production 7591's are available from JJ and ElectroHarmonix.
AFAIK all the 1000A tubes are available; I don't know about the radio tubes, though.
Yes, the 1000 used an unusual output tube.

My 1000A had new JJ 7591's when I got it. It sounds sweet...

Thanks to each of you. Not surprised tht the tubes would be pricey. Seems to be the way vintage is going. Just as long as they can be obtained. I'd steer clear of the russian unless a reputable source had verified their compatability and reliability. And the info on recapping is greatly appreciated. My tendency would be to hook it up and give it a go. In this case I think a good tech would be in order before trying a 1000a.
Once again my thanks. Isn't AK a neat place! :thmbsp:

The JJ 7591's seem to be OK. Dunno about the EH's.
The price of NOS 7591's has retreated a bit I think, due to the availability of new production tubes again.
For some inexplicable reason, I have entirely too many amps and receivers that use 7591/A's :-P
