Wow, another new McAmp. Is that tube amp really outputting 2 x 300 W ??
My search led me to a pic of an amp with an 'untypical' finish for a Mc. Wud be interested to hear more about it.

Find a Macintosh preamp, C27, C29, C32. The Crown is not of the same quality.

Congratulations! Is this your first McIntosh purchase, Leon? Judging by MY experience, it won't be your last! :)
Another poster mentioned tubes - The Mc2300 is solid state - not tubes.
Kelsa is right - you don't want to use the Crown. Luckily, the Mc2300 has gain controls, so you CAN plug your cd player directly into the audio inputs, and eliminate the pre-amp entirely (if you don't have funds for a Mac preamp immediately). That way there's no dilution of the "McIntosh Sound".

Actually, you can plug in your portable CD player and your little earbuds and with a long extension cord make an excellent portable system. Sereiosly, dump that Crown preamp. At best it is a dog. Any Mc preamp even the C24 would be a big improvement.

Fine amplifier, I use a C32, MC2300, MR78, ML2C with other assorted stuff (Denon CD, Akai RR, Dual TT), the Mac is what makes the system.
Last time I had my 2300 on the bench it would put out 425W before clipping, just a bit over built and under rated...

Yes. This is my first Mcintosh amp before this i using cerwin wega HED110 pwer amp 500w two channel amp. I just upgrade this by last month only. I buy this amp from old guy selling at RM9000.
I have few probelm of my mcintosh MC2300. Kindy pls help to provide solution, step and circuit diagram:
1) Right channel sound is lound then left channel about 10% (after change speaker, speaker cable, rca cable,cd player, exchange cable in left, right speaker, connect amp direct to cd player)
2)My Mcintosh MC2300 amp left right channel is wrong. Now left channel sound become right (left =right) and right channel sound become left (right = left). I already check connection (RCA, speaker cable left, right) from my cd player, amp, pre amp found my connection is correct.

Hey,
I just bought an MC2300 amp on feebay for $800.00 (pick-up only) it is the cats-meow, I am giddy... like a school girl!! My speakers are a/d/s studio monitor 910's, pre-amp C-28. I was upgrading from an MC2100 amp/MA6100 integrated amp. I am wondering about the gain... wide open, half-open or does it even matter. A friend told me WFO, I normally kept them at half? Just curious, is there was a norm, Steve
(the fans are a little annoying when the music ends!)

Congrats on buying that powerhouse. Setting the gain controls is not any different than with any other amp. I have the C28, MC250 and MC2105 and setting the controls is a little different b/c of the output level controls on the 28 sitting on the top. I usually initially set the amp level controls fully down, the 28 output level controls fully open and the C28 volume control to about 1:00. This gets it beyond the low end and any common low end imbalance. The using a source, I turn the amp controls to an average level that I listen to. If the amp does not have a set of level controls, then I use the 28's output level controls otherwise I just leave them wide open.
Once I've set the controls as above as a base, I'll then experiment to see if ther is another combination that sounds better. As most amp level controls are on the input, changing the level can change the input impedence and affect the sound. If it does then I'll set the amp level controls for best sound and then see if the preamp level controls can be be adjusted so the volume control stays at 1:00 without losing the sound quality.

I had one of these when I lived in the islands and used it for dj work..can you imagine?..The nice thing about it is that you could string a lot of double eighteen speaker enclosure ( for that reggae bass you know) without any problems. We were limited always to good power source from the utility company and we could tell if its performance for the night would be great or just so-so depending on how much the surrounding lights dimmed when it was turned on !! Well I sold it before I came to the US an subsequently learnt that the new owner literally blew it up..ah well.. should have kept it..Have fond memories of trucking it home at 4am in the morning , its 128lb weight flattening the front passenger seat of my friends Austin Mini Cooper and our girlfriends sitting on top to boot!!! It had a bass sound that no other could compare..none of the crowns, sansuii ba 5000 nor bgws..so enjoy my friend wish I could afford one again!!!!cheers

A whole bunch of MC2300s were sold back in the day. Sounds like someone has wired you inputs or meters backward on the reversed channel thing. 450 watts or more per channel if you have good AC. The stock power cord is fine it is your house wiring that will need the upgrade.
thanks,

The Grateful Dead powered their whole sound system with nothing but those amps- the famous Wall of Sound. Jerry Garcia played through an MC2300 (using a Fender twin reverb head as his preamp) until he left this Earth. :tears:
