View Full Version : Woohoo! My first ever GW score!
onepixel 03-27-2007, 07:49 PM The only thing the local GW carries is overpriced BPC. So I was resigned to just buying vinyl. Which is actually pretty good, the last haul of LPs were near mint and nearly dust free.
It was a rainy sort of day yesterday and I dropped into see if they had any new vinyl. First thing that caught my eye was this rack. $39.99 and another sign that said 50% off. Shoot...for $20 I could pull some stuff out of the closet and set up.
So I hauled it home. It's pretty heavy, metal legs and solid deep cherry stained wood. The Marantz 4100 is modelling it. Not sure what, where and how it's going to be used. But I'm pretty psyched!
I gotta thank Duffinator for putting the vinyl idea into my head. :thmbsp:
cabinover 03-27-2007, 08:07 PM There are never any rack setups in my neighborhood. Hell, there's never anything in my neighborhood besides mud.
Duffinator 03-27-2007, 08:08 PM Hey that looks pretty cool, especially for $20! Will a monster receiver fit in there? And did you find me that mint copy of Led Zeppelin I for $0.50? :D

Sorry no Led Zep yet! I'm still looking. It's barely wide enough for the smaller Marantz but most separates fit nicely.
Sluggo 03-27-2007, 08:28 PM Great score!!! Ive been looking my self for a new
shelf rack.Im tired of the glass doors on the cabinet
Im using for my main system.
And the 4100 looks Beautiful also-Good goin!

Redboy 03-27-2007, 08:36 PM That's a great looking rack. Nice find.
wizargoz 03-29-2007, 08:18 PM I just picked up a Plateau 4 tier rack for the same price at GW. Yours is very nice too!

SoCal Sam 03-29-2007, 08:29 PM That's not the kind of RACK I'm thinking of.
arrow 68 03-29-2007, 09:34 PM You found exactly what I have been looking for. And at the right price. I was a Carpenters Apprentice once upon a time, but really don't have the proper tools to build a nice one. My Uncle is a Carpenter, and always finds stuff on Jobs, and could probably build one for me. That looks like it could have come from Scan, or IKEA. I have seen a couple on the bay, but they usually run a couple of hundred, with shipping. There was a nice one in Scan. Six Shelves, angled so it could fit in a corner, dark wood posts. $800.
beemer 03-29-2007, 09:41 PM That's a wicked nice rack for 20 bux!!!! I can never find decent racks cheap, and Lord knows I could use them.
Congratulations on a good score. That marantz piece is certainly eye candy as well.
Best,
Paul :thmbsp:
onepixel 03-29-2007, 10:08 PM Thanks guys!
I was gonna build one, but no time. Thought about buying one 400-800+ for a nice one. But that money would buy a very nice receiver or something. So when I wandered into GW not expecting a whole lot and finding it was like one of those moments I've heard about for so long!
VinylHanger 03-29-2007, 10:20 PM I was at one of the GW's a few months ago and passed on a sweet rack for 35 bucks. I had the Jeep with me and would have had to disassemble it. Unfortunetly I looked in one of my audio catalogs and saw the same rack, slightly newer version for around 700 bucks or so. I knew looking at it, it was well made, though unfortunetly my lazy bone kicked in at just the wrong time.
BroonsBane 03-29-2007, 10:21 PM That's a beautiful rack, needs more gear in it though ;)
specialidiot 03-29-2007, 10:28 PM That's not the kind of RACK I'm thinking of.
2nd, I was googling the intarweb for "nice rack" and it brought me here. :(

Yeah...I'm still trying to figure out what and where. Opposite that new rack in the same room is this Bello rack I scored off CL couple months ago. It's filled with vintage Sansuis. And you can glimpse a part of the retro "chair" I got for comfy listening.

I don't need anymore audio gear for life (maybe...). Just filling in the spaces to make listening more enjoyable!
Cheers
BroonsBane 03-29-2007, 11:39 PM I remember that pic. I love vintage Sansui's and dogs too :thmbsp:
Redboy 03-30-2007, 06:32 AM And you can glimpse a part of the retro "chair" I got for comfy listening.Oh, you would have to bring up the chair!!
Whenever I see your avatar I think of the chair. Some Pavlovian response kicks in and I feel so jealous I want to hit something! Or eat some dog food...
:D

Hey don't hit anything or worse eat dog food...get even!
Since I more or less stopped looking for more audio, I've noticed there is a lot of cool...other stuff out there. Chairs included! I almost traded that chair in for a massage chair. And I know another member got a mint genuine Herman Miller lounge for less than 1/2 the going price.
Do yourself a big favor and get "the chair"!
Cheers
sauvong 03-30-2007, 11:29 AM Hey don't hit anything or worse eat dog food...get even!
If you do decide to eat dog food, stay away from Menu Foods brand canned dog food. Not a good time right now to be eating that brand. My heart goes out to all the sick puppies, that includes everyone here on Audiokarma, you sick audio junkies, I am working on a cure, one shot to the right shoulder and you will give all your gear to me free of charge..err...no I mean give all your gear back to GW, SA, and whatnot.
Carl, it's odd I have been looking for a rack also lately, seems like there is a pattern to this audio collecting, you get a certain amount of receivers and rack hunting naturally follows.

onepixel 03-30-2007, 11:45 AM Hey Sau,
Fortunately my old dog eats special dry dog food, so he's ok.
Racks come in handy. Beats having all your gear stuffed into a closet and not getting any use. I'm going to be doing some spring cleaning and get rid of extra stuff.
That GW where you picked up thoses boxed Infinitys, started to carry some nice furniture. I think there was a very nice entertainment center/rack in frosted glass and brushed aluminum. Some wood CD racks and a massage chair! They have 50% sales once in awhile. I just can't figure out when.
I have an old school rack with a front and top glass door. It has 4 or 5 shelves you or anyone else can have if interested. It's in good shape a little dusty.

Do yourself a big favor and get "the chair"!Hey Carl,
I haven't eaten any dog food lately... However, I too have come across some cool chairs in my searching. The orange chair in the picture below is what I'm currently using as an office chair - it ousted a much fancier Herman Miller chair that was much less comfortable. It was once made by Krueger Metal Products of Wisconsin. I found a bunch of them, bought them all and only kept two. The gray chairs are Herman Miller Side Shells, of which I found a good dozen at giveaway prices. I kept two, sold the others to fund audio toys. Chairs have been good to me!
So I'm all set for office chairs... still looking for my perfect lounge chair!
I almost traded that chair in for a massage chair. If you EVER get a crazy itch to do something like that again, please talk to me first... if I haven't found my ideal yet, I just might consider shipping yours to MN! No kidding, I'm very serious here...
onepixel 04-02-2007, 09:21 PM Hey Redboy...I have that lamp and almost bought that rug!
Great minds think a like! And those a very cool chairs! I see similiar ones around here but I don't have any room to start collecting chairs.
If I ever get tired of "the chair" (I doubt it) you can have it for the price of shipping. :D
cicero2 04-02-2007, 11:21 PM beware of onepixel's dog, redboy, when i went to onepixel's house to buy a sansui, it sneezed the biggest collection of snot i've ever seen. and all of it went on my arm.
well worth it, though!
onepixel 04-02-2007, 11:44 PM Snot?! That stuff came out from the other end.
Just kidding.
chillwolf 04-03-2007, 12:05 PM Nice looking rack at a very nice price! Would make a nice rack for a bedroom system.
sleddogman 04-03-2007, 12:41 PM Excellent price on that rack! Looks identical to my Plateau SE-A4 Series 4-Shelf Audio Stand. Mine has round black spindles and Cherry shelves with the black edging. Yours looks like the Black Oak or Espresso color. I found mine on eBay of all places for $50.00. Amazon.com and other places also carry them in a variety of styles (shelves and spindle colors/shapes) and you can get extra shelves in various widths and more spindles to mix 'n match or expand as necessary.
Nice stuff, check 'em out here: http://www.plateaucorp.com/html/modularseries/se-a4.htm
onepixel 04-21-2007, 07:03 PM I finally got around to filling up the rack. Had to show off because it look so darn pretty. Unfortunately the Quad doesn't sound to good because the rack is sitting where the speaker should be.
At least I'm getting a good work out.
bolly 04-21-2007, 07:07 PM what a great lookin rack onepixel!! :thmbsp:
Cosmos 04-22-2007, 12:40 AM Whenever they get a rack worth selling, they put a sign on it that says "Not for sale, Display Only"
I have never seen a piece of tube gear in any SA or GW. They must pitch it..
Redboy 04-22-2007, 10:20 AM Real nice!
I've got to get a wood case for my 2275.
