.......and this forum has such great demographics.....what are anyones thoughts on the 10 Commandments?

Does their display offend you?

If so, do you teach your children right from wrong?

Do you agree or disagree with public display of religious figures?

Do you agree with a God figure?

Besides yourself, of course.

I'm curious.....just asking......

Regards,

Joe

Lets take one at a time...

NOPE displaying the 10 commandments doesn't offend me.

YES I try my best to teach my kids right from wrong.

YES I agree with the public display of religious symbols.

YES I agree with a God figure.

I'm not an American but America was founded by men who believed in the word of God. The seperation of church and state was intended to protect the church from the state although lately it seems to be the other way around. I was appalled to see the 10 commandents forcibly removed from that courthouse. ( sorry can't recall what state that was). I never get this urge to appease everybody. All that accomplish's is making nobody happy. I'd love to see a Westerner emigrate to some Mid-Eastern country and tell them to please remove any symbols of Allah.

The average American is a COWARD.

Prove me wrong, sheep.

Guys- Whether or not you believe in God, the 10 Commandments still aren't a bad way to try to live yr life. A helluva lot better than anything the PC Police & their allies can come up with. Who died & left them boss anyhow? -Sandy G.

DR No No, are you on the sauce ? Or are you just poking fun ?

I would agree to a certain extent, most Americans are a bit gun shy when it comes to spouting your personal beliefs. Why ? Well for me, do you think what Pro' wrote is going to change my point of view ? Is there anything I could write that would change his point of view ? IMO these debates are so tired the banality of it makes me wanna set my head on fire.....I'm not a coward, I just dont see the point (on this forum)

The ten commandments displayed in front of a court house does not offend me in the least. What offends me is the thought process involved here......No ten commandments !!!! But be sure and swear to GOD before you testifiy about it.........???

This whole thing is very simple. Just respect others and what they believe and don't force your beliefs on others....

If you watch children, they understand this. That is until thier parents start fucking them up.

Think I'll go brush my teeth........

Prove you wrong?? OK I was gonna not open my mouth but since you called me a coward and a sheep I will.

I think it's ignorant for people to try to push their beliefs or religon on others.

Do I believe in god or the bible or the ten commandments?

God? Mebbe but if I ever meet him we will have words since he has put me thru some pretty shitty stuff. Basically I really think your born, you live, you die, you rot, thats it. It's nice to think our spirits will go on or some such and I am sure it is a comfort to think so ;)

The bible and the ten commandments? NO, Great fiction tho.

Though there is good advice like "Thou shalt not kill" though some folks need some killing so I guess it depends on the circumstances.

I did however covet my neighbors wife, got drunk with her one night and screwed her brains out, later she divorced her hubbie and I moved in, it's now been 11 years we've been together, think I'm going to hell? Or was it fate?

I do believe in right or wrong but mebbe not exactly how the bible spells it out.

The display of religious figure or icons or the bible the ten commandments or the tora do not offend me.

Jehovah's witnesses, and mormans banging on my door trying to convert me, and the idiots who pass out little religious booklets or leave them lying around to be found do offend me.

I think Americans keeping their mouths shut about the issues you are talking about does not mean we are sheep, it means we mostly mind our own business about other peoples religions. You know, live and let live.

I am not a church-going man. Where I grew up (Brooklyn, N.Y.), it was possible to stand at an intersection, and have a Roman Catholic church on one corner, a Hebrew synagogue on the other, an ashram at another, and a Buddhist temple at the other. All incredibly beautiful and wonderful stories of religion. Who am I to determine which one is the real deal? I am only a man. I respect the rights of others, and teach my daughter to adhere to the same principals. Just yesterday, as she was laughing at a cheerleader that fell or tripped, I felt compelled to councel her on the pitfalls of laughing at others misfortunes. When I was very young, I remember making fun of the name Perry COMO. My father admonished me about that right then and there. We DON'T make fun of peoples names. That is the earliest instance I can remember regarding my behavior and its drawbacks.

I don't mind seeing The Ten Commandments in writing ANYWHERE, or the display of religious statues/icons. I take offense at people who only walk the walk, and talk the talk one day a week, and then go out and screw the snot out of their fellow man on the other six.

Does their display offend you?

Nope, I'm not that sensitive.

Do you agree or disagree with public display of religious figures?

I think public display ought to be kept to really fantastic looking females. As for religious figures, ultimatley they only symbolize/hint at our search for the sprititual/divine. They can become a problem when they become a false god unto themselves. "If you see the Buddha on the road, kill him."

Do you agree with a God figure?

No, most of the time the God figure I know pisses me off. He expects selfless, giving behavior which goes contrary to my nature. I only agree with him when I've hit a place of surrender and can no longer take my empty self-centered lifestyle. But in the surrender I find all sorts of joy I never knew existed.

Strange way to word the questions. Hope the answers aren't too CKS.

I'm against religious diaplays of any kind on public property, even more so when our tax money is wasted on it. That includes the ten commandments.

Well I've stated it before...

To ME... "This is not the place to discuss Politics or Religion". There's plenty of other forums to do that if you so desire.

I will say this though... I absolutely agree with TA when he said: "I take offense at people who only walk the walk, and talk the talk one day a week, and then go out and screw the snot out of their fellow man on the other six.

amen.

I have nothing to add.

am i offended by the religious stuff being displayed.

No. It doesnt bother me despite if i believe in it or not. So i see two guys holding hands. I dont agree with that. But im not going to go and get all offended by it. Although i sometimes do. just because i dont wanna see it.

Back to the topic. Teaching your littles ones right from wrong and the comandments dont have to relate. Even if you dont believe in the comandments whats wrong with teaching your kids some morals.

Do i agree with a god figure. Sometimes yes and no. Id hate to say NO because i was brought up to believe in it although ive only been to church a couple times in my life. But i have to say no sometimes because like others have said if god is soo great why does he make some suffer when will it no longer become a obstacle in the road of life. Have i ever seen him? no i have no proof hes real how can i believe in something i havent seen or been touched by? There are soo many questions that are unawswered about life and such and they will continue to go without awnsers because there arent any. We are just organic organisms living here. We're born we live and we die and its over. Thats the end. It can be really scary when you think of it that way. But you can rest in the thought that when you do die, its the end. So there will be nothing so there shall be nothing to fear.

If someone wants to do things in public that they believe in fine. you have every right to do it as much as i do.

One thing i am rather offeneded by is the pledge of allegiance. Ok ok. i know some might hate me for saying it but to eaches own.

to me having to stand up and say the pledge every single day at school is the same as me standing up and doing the arm thing to hitler. where is the difference. The pledge states that I pledge my alleigiance to the flag of the united states of america. well what if i dont. then what. Just like if they will force you to remove your hat during the pledge, and stand up. You gonna make me?! where does it state that i must do t hese things. What if i dont believe in it. Your forcing it upon me. wrong.

Some people are fighting to keep the pledge alive.

good riddens i say.

Dr. No, you're touching on subjects I like to follow in other forums. As much as I'd like to jump in, I also agree with Moondog, some things are best left untouched here. I think a lot of the camaraderie we have, is due to the fact that we DON'T get mired in political and religious discussions.

I know that if I started spouting some of my crap here that fur would fly and I would probably be banned, so I'll stick to audio and lite topics.
This is exactly what the good doctor was referring to with his CKS comment but the fact of the matter is, the right to free speech doesn't guarantee you a FORUM for that free speech, hence censorship. Or self-censorship in my case.

It's always been my own feeling that discussions of this nature tend to bring out nothing but debate......nobody is going to convince anyone that they are right.

And the worst casualty of threads like this, is friendship. Through political and religious discourse, we tend to find out that people that we consider to be comrades and good friends in audio and other discussions here on AK, once topics like this are broached, we may end up deciding that we really don't even like them at all......think about it.

For myself in this regard, I'd prefer to let ignorance be bliss....I like everyone :) . I myself wouldn't want to participate in this debate, just based on those grounds.
