That is a sexy unit. You gotta love those so-called "one owner" receivers. Did Pacific Coast Stereo have stores in Wisconsin or in the northern states? If not, I guess it migrated there thru the years! lol

They had stores in Illinois and Missouri.

Good catch. I guess he didn't like it the 16.5 after all. BTW, what a train wreck that thread became...

$25 handling fee. Wow. I sometimes charge $5 for packing but $25.
Yes, I have shipped very heavy items.
And I pack well.
Someday one will show up at the flea market or a garage sale. I'll wait for that one.

The 16.5 can really fool a person into thinking they're listening to separates. That said, while I absolutely love my 16.5, I do run several separates systems.

The 16.5 is very heavy and requires extra care when packaging. While I agree with you $25 is excessive, I've wanted to charge $25 because of the time it takes to properly package a monster receiver.
I did local pickup for my 16.5. That's the only way to ensure safe delivery.

Thats the only way to go for any of these IMO. My 1250 was local and I wouldn't have had it any other way. However, I would trust some of the regulars here to pack one up properly. The average ebayer? :thumbsdn:

We have been through this numerous times on this forum already:
$25 is unlikely to cover the actual cost of providing packing materials (strong boxes, foam material, tape, and bubbles (as applicable). Covering the hours it takes to pack it properly - forget about it. Some people try to sell TOTL receivers with total of shipping and handling of $30 or under - sorry, you won't see me bidding - this is not an area where I want the seller to be skimpy.
It is not the shipping, packing or any other auxilliary cost that makes or breaks a deal - it is what you are out of pocket, in total, when everything is said and done and the unit is sitting on your rack playing tunes that matters.

he said he moved to seperates, but if you check his feedback he's bought at least two giant pioneer receivers. both of which, he'll probably be the first owner. :)

Quite right, the 16.5 does not have an AUX. However, it has the usual two TAPE INPUTS and they work fine for CDP's. I have a nice Kenwood integrated (650), and the 16.5 amp section compares favorably. As mentioned earlier by Bully, I agree, the 16.5 is as close to separates as you are going to get in a receiver.

Has anyone heard of the Sansui :music: G-9000 (http://cgi.ebay.com/SANSUI-G-9000-DB-VINTAGE-STEREO-RECEIVER-1-OWNER-PAPERS_W0QQitemZ140102280620QQihZ004QQcategoryZ505 96QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) or Yamaha CR-3020?

The 650 and 600 is one fine amp.

Not likely. The 650 and 600 are, like the 16.5 overbuilt with dual trannies.

I did buy 2 pioneers a 1250 and a 1280. Awsume receivers i like the 1250 better warmer sound. I did go seprates. I bought a adcom 555 and a adcom 565 preamp which i like better than anything i own, But nothing beats the look of a 1250 or 1050 except the 1980. That 1980 is to much money. I did what you guys told me to do buy and sell till you find what you like.:thmbsp: I am looking a tube amps now to see how they sound on my altec's. I am the orgional owner. I lived in chicago for 34 years and did purchase the unit at pacific stereo in chicago illinois. The unit will be double boxed and bullet proff, which takes time. As far as sold as is i see that all the time on adds,CYA But the unit has worked for many years and still works fine.I am not a rip off i am just trying out other units and or systems so i need to sell what i do not like anymore. The concept 16.5 has been good to me but i just needed a change. Thanks for all the input and advise.

Whatever you end up with, the most important factor is your personal preference. If you settle on the 1250, you've made an excellent choice. Separates are a whole different ball game and there are so many worthy choices. I agree, as a rule, separates are better then receivers. However, some receivers like the 16.5, 1250, and the 1280 come very close to matching the sound. Personally, I like both separates and receivers.

I agree with you everyones taste is diffrent. I like the 1250 better than the 1280 you may like the 1280 better.I just was responding to all the posts about my listing. The unit is mint. Because of this site I now have a better sounding reciever and seperates. I am still learning.and will continue to learn. The 16.5 has given me years of great service,But now it is time to move on.
Thanks

$511 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110112766255).
Although I would have no conceivable application for this unit (AK owned: blzatrl123), I decided, in a moment of weakness, that it would be a laugh to have another one, and bid this one up to $500 before I let up. Hopefully, it ended up with someone who intend to actually use it - much better that way!
Did anyone here bid, or better yet, buy it? It looks like a very well cared for unit.
I need to vent a little bit here: This new eBay system of cloaking bidders' user name is truly awful and flawed. Of the dozen or so bidders on this particular unit, who knows how many may have been fellow AK'ers, that I would not have bid against if I knew their identity. Heck, I could even have been bidding against my kids, wife and parents (they may be looking for a gift for me - hypothetically, of course!). Even after auction close, everyone but the highest bidder is cloaked.
It seems to me that the only ones benefiting from this new system is the Seller (and indirectly eBay, which I am fine with - incidentally, I am a shareholder:D ).
All the best.

That's a good price for a 16.5. Hope an AK'er got it!
