That looked like a great deal. If I didn't have the hots for one of the bigger integrateds I would have jumped.

The 701 is the baby brother to the 917. Awesome build quality. I'm expecting more of the same with the 701.

I almost went for that! So many options though on the bay! Glad you got it!

Thanks. I hope they arrive safely. They are coming from Florida, which is a long way.

Not to criticize, but one reason I passed was it seemed to have a high shipping price, or am I just naive? I admit that I have not bought anything, much less a heavy vintage stereo piece of the bay yet, but most other heavey pieces I've seen were more around $20 to $30 to ship, and I've heard about the inflating of shipping prices and deflating of product prices going on to make buyers think they are getting a better deal (not that it's still not a good buy though! :thmbsp:) than they really are. :scratch2:

Wow, that's a great deal for both pieces. Throw some mods on the tuner and you'll have one sweet set.

If I was in the same state, Florida, I would say you are correct. He will be shipping to California so cost is about right, especially since he is considering two boxes. Anyways, still kind of irratating that shipping cost is almost as much as the two Kennies.

I think so. The 701 has 80 wpc so is less than a dollar a watt (excluding shipping). I was looking for a nudie of the 701 but could find only the 7100 and the 7001. I think the 701 is an update of the 7100. Here's the link to some Kenny nudies:

The KT-815 is good enough to get some write-ups over at Tuner Info. It is a 5 gang with dual MOS-FET's. The 815 got into the Shootout but it finished next to last. Better than the rest, it's kind of like losing in the first round of the NCAA basketball tournament.

There is no doubt that each component should be shipped separately. It would be a huge mistake to throw them together into a single large box.
Damn, how did I miss that one! I coulda gone to pick it up! I've been doing well with the Kenwood's this week. Picked up the KA-4000/KT-5000 Saturday and won an auction for a KA-5700 Sunday. Venice is 90 minutes from me, hope this gets to you in great shape!

Redcoates, I was waiting for you to notice... While I'm waiting for my set to arrive, do you have any info on the KA-701? I know it is 80 wpc. Are the outputs discreet? How many trannies? Thanks, Sam.

Sam-
Well, I don't recall a bunch of the details, and of course I'm sitting in a hotel in Denver and not at home right now so I can't pop the hood.
Definitely alll discrete outputs (none of that power pack stuff) and some really great controls...the volume knob is usefully detented, and if it's in good shape, the switches have a nice chunky snap to them when operated. I really like this combo.
In all honesty, the KA-9100 sounds a bit better, but the 701 is darn close, and repairable in the event of a disaster
...and now is when Aaron pipes in to tell us to stop bothering with the 701 and buy a KA-907 already :)
