Duffinator 04-10-2011, 09:07 PM That origin live table is ridiculously pretty. I love it.
Added this to the pile today. Sansui SR-Q9:

You never know when you're going to need a shiny black turntable to match some shiny black gear you happen to have in a system where you rarely, but sometimes, listen to a turntable.Looks great, how does it sound?
JohnVF 04-10-2011, 09:16 PM Looks great, how does it sound?
A few remarks in the post above yours. I'm still listening to it after 4 albums, which is longer than a lot of tables have lasted around here. I need to really play around with setup some more. It has a slightly 'hollow' sound that I don't particularly like right now but it was very quickly set up and its not really being given the best chance right now.
theophile 04-10-2011, 11:19 PM Interesting. Thanks for the description. :thmbsp:
Mawerick 04-11-2011, 12:07 PM The changer is a Garrard RC 75 from ca. 1951 and it works. Needs some TLC though, but I haven't figured out yet how to remove the platter :scratch2:
Nevermind. Some WD40 I sprayed around yesterday did the job and I just lifted the platter off. Needs new belts, but works otherwise.

Mid-Fi 04-13-2011, 09:22 PM A Sony Bio Tracer PS-X600 under$100 with a m97xe running into a Mitsu DA system Into Boston A150s. I'm LOVING IT! Thanks to all the AKers who share their experience I stopped just buying stuff cause it looked coll or said Pioneer on it. Now I have a killer system I can honestly say I only have about $700 after mistakes and shipping.

Zingem 04-27-2011, 12:04 PM Found it!
A Thorens TD-125 of the first generation, with a TP-25.
It's not in tiptop condition, but not that bad either. After a first inspection, cleaning and smearing, it works! It plays music, the strobelight works etc.
For 60 Eurobucks I guess I can't complain! And I don't.
In time it'll shine next to the TD-124 and the Duals!
Looking forward to that moment...
I'm picking up a beautiful, fully working SL-23 (Technics) tomorrow! New belt, new Shure M97XE cart. Except for a few blemishes on the dust cover, it looks like it could have come straight out of the box.
I love its clean and understated looks too. Bright strobe box, simple dials for fine-tuning the speed.
So this makes my collection thus:
JVC QL-Y5 with M97XE cart
Technics SL-1200 with M44-7 cart
Technics SL-23 with MX97XE cart
Yamaha YP-D4 with an Empire cart
Sony PS-LX300H with Blue Grado cart
Obviously the Sony, from the mid-90s, is the clunker in this lot, aside from the cart. And the Yamaha is just so-so. But those top three are killer.
When does this obsession end? Every time I see a decent vintage-y table these days, I want it!

Congratulation! How would you describe it?
Art K. 04-29-2011, 07:37 PM Congratulation! How would you describe it?
Amazing budget table. I've owned a bunch of tables and my awful experience with my last table had me swearing off vinyl and I sold off everything I owned, records, accessories, everything. In a moment of insanity I decided to do it again...this time if it sucks there will be no more...not to worry at this point.
Budget tables I've owned, Pro-ject Debut III, Pro-ject 1Expression, Music Hall MMF 2.2, Rega P3-2000, Rega P3-24 (w/TTPSU). Better tables were the P5 and Clearaudio Concept. The RP1 slides in between the budget tables and the better ones.
In a very key area the RP1 outperforms the P3-2000, P3-24 (yes, with the TTSU) and the 1Xpression and that's with pitch stability. The RP1 has less overall weight (both physically and in sound) than the P3's (barely and let's see if I'm saying that with a few more hrs on it) but sounds better to my ears due to that one key performance area. So far the RP1 has exceeded my expectations...and that is a very good and difficult thing.
Art K. 04-29-2011, 07:40 PM BTW, when an RP3 comes out it should be killer!

Just enough so with a performance parameter that is important to me (pitch). Others will certainly disagree as there will be other performance parameters that matter more to them.
Better tonearm wire and this table would be absolutely killer and unbeatable to $1k.

What do you think of that cart? Buddy of mine had that cart on a P3 and i wast really cold and life less. Of course the warm sounding Conrad Johnson tube gear was no help at all.

Hey Slippers, not sure what you are asking..could you clarify.
It's a Rega cart, comes with warts and all. The biggest problem is surface noise and static are enhanced by the very high output. So when I figure out how to get the static under control and clean the records it will improve things. The sound is very good and it has a long way to go for break in. It's nice and warm with good detail. I like it much better than the Ortofon 2M series. The table is good enough to warrant a pretty significant cartridge upgrade. I may put a Dyn 20X on here one day...just for giggles. That's a long way off though.

Just picked up a mint Dual CS 502 yesterday for fifty bucks. Hasn't been used for years so I'm thinking of stripping it down and giving it a full going over. This is my first turntable so I am looking forward to experiencing the world of vinyl!
Cheers,

They are not all that easy to find.
jimreeves 05-01-2011, 07:43 PM It is purty, isn't it. It came with a workable Yamaha MC7 too, but I was looking for a better platform for the Glider. Unusual CL situation though. The guy was definately a hoarder and had some strange political ideas about Schwarzenegger he felt he had to share with me. He did have some ADS 1230's hiding in a corner too. If I had the room I might have made an offer.
I've owned several TTs over the years including two Gerrards and a Dual. My last purchase was the one I still own, a Sony PS-2251 with a Signet MR 5.0 e cartridge. Haven't used it in years but am going to hook it back into my system soon and give some of those several hundred old and still mint LPs I have stored away, a spin or three. My only concern is that the cartridge may have deteriorated over the many years of storage, but guess I'll find that out when I get it out.
Great thread, glad to see there are so many folks still into vinyl these days.
Regards to all.............Terry:thmbsp::music:

The Rega cart on his P-3 was a few years old...never used much but broken in well. We both thought the cart sounded flat. But if you know anything about Conrad Johnson gear, at least some of the newer stuff, its really warm and not as lively as I would like it to be. I like tubes, but not to warm and colored. Well he thought the cart was flat as well and traded it for a Dyn 10x and it sounds much better.

I've owned the Dyn 10x5 and like it a lot. Never much cared for the Elys 2, in this setup it's sounding as good as the 10x5 on my P3-24...just sayin'. Remember that I ran the P3-24 with 10x5 with the same phono stage (model) for a bit and I am as surprised as anyone at the performance that I am getting.
I ran a Sheffield Lab classical LP last night and was absolutely blown away at the performance of RP1/Elys 2 combo. I like pleasant surprises.

Well, I've owned the Red (twice, thought I must be wrong so I tried again..) and listened to the Blue and the Black. They kind of remind me of Cambridge CD players. Sterile and uninteresting with more high frequency energy than I'm comfortable with. That said I keep hearing that the Bronze is truly the special one...kind of tempting. Right now I'm broke so it doesn't really matter...:scratch2::D!

Hey...lol! I know about broke...me and him are friends.
I use to have that bright sound from the cart due to cheap interconnects and speaker wire. (not saying yours are cheap...I know they are not...you got good interconnects and cabling...and taste, may I add)
When I moved to St. Louis from Durham North Carolina, the first thing I did was to get the Rotel gear and made the mistake of getting cheap cables and speaker wire.
Discovered while reading one day that good cable and speaker wire can be considered as a component by its self in a audio system. Decided to go to a friends to listen to different interconnects he had at his place to see if all cable sounded the same or not. Well it didn't... So I decided to looked and hunt for warm cabling and speaker wire that gives good detail, good decay on the top as well as the bottom, with rich mids..gotta have the good mids... and not to expensive.
Well my search took me to Analysis Plus cables. I have it between all my gear and speakers and its as one component.( I will never mix different brands again) The 2M Red sounds good through it. So my broke tail will be broker after I get the Black or Bronze....and of course moving up the line with A+ cables....will let you know what I think after I get the new cart in a few months.
Cheers..

I really like your choice in gear, slippers, I think you have chosen well and carefully. Not everyone will have the same taste but that doesn't change the quality of the choices. I enjoyed music as much with the Rotel gear I've owned as with any gear I've owned, just fabulous gear at real world prices.
I have also owned A Plus cables. Some of their cables weren't right for me in my setup but they were outstanding. Great build quality and sound engineering. I think that the Oval One at around $100 is the best buy in all of audio for an interconnect, just love that cable. I owned the Oval One and Copper Oval IC's, Clear Oval, Theater 4, Oval 12 speaker cable and the Oval 10 power cord.

charles 1973 05-16-2011, 07:04 PM I'm just getting back into Turntables after a 20 year absence, so I'm starting out at the entry level range to see how much I enjoy it. 3 day's ago I picked up a vintage Pioneer Rondo 2000? belt drive/semi-auto Table in a 7/10 condition (Don't laugh, it's not as bad as it sound's...pioneer was so embaresed by the name, they didn't even put it on the player). It came with a new Nagaoka MP11 Cartridge and a Tonar-Vinyliine MM/MC Phono stage from my Audio Dealer for $350.
So far I'm quiet pleased with the results. At first I was dissapointed with the sound, but decided to give it that 30 hrs. breaking in period Nagaoka recomends. It now sounds good after playing it pehap's 15 hrs. It was the soundstage, Imaging, and HF detail that were disapointing. At first I thought all that noise was part of the Vinyl thing...wrong, I found a few album's that are nearly as quiet as my CD's. I only have 25 with 5 new ones to start. So far it looks like I'm going to integrate Vinyl into my system, I'm beginning to enjoy it and might move upscale later.

If you have a original 3009 the Denon DL-103 is a good choice for moving coil carts, otherwise the Audio Technica AT7V is a nice moving magnet cart for higher mass arms.
I mainly use my PL-12D. Doesn't compare to many of yours. But does an excellent job for $14!

charles 1973 05-25-2011, 01:54 PM I mainly use my PL-12D. Doesn't compare to many of yours. But does an excellent job for $14!
I'm not surprised it does an exalent job.
If it makes you feel any better, I have a 35 year old Pioneer Rondo 2000? Its not as bad as it sounds. It looks like some of their early PL 10's. I have a new Nagaoke MP11 Cartridge on it playing through a Vinyline Preamp, just to try out Vinyl again. This package cost me $350 set up through a dealer. Once I broke in the cartridge, I played a Thelma Houston Direct to disc LP that sounded most impressive. I put a used Kenny Roggers LP on before I tossed the LP and his vioce came through so clear it was like he was there in the room, the speakers just disappered.
I will likely upgrade to that new Rega Entry level manual table for $475 thats getting such good reviews or a step or 2 higher (To $800), seeing how much I enjoy the Vinyl experience and sound. I also enjoy FM Radio for the wide variety of music, and with a good Tuner the music can sound beautiful. Between FM and some CD Listing I don't listen to a lot of Vinyl, but when I'm in the mood I still want good sound.

Most of us here won't cast aspersion on the PL-12D. It's an excellent basic turntable and a good foundation for a nice vintage system.:music:
marly421 05-27-2011, 10:36 PM My little TT group listed below. As I move the tables around allot I would be hard pressed to pick a favorite. The Music Hall costing $1100 should jump up as a favorite but variety is the spice of life so my fav would be the one I'm listening to right then. I have 11 more cartridges to pick from in my current cycling Que. I so love to pick and choose combinations...it really is a bug or sickness you pick up for vinyl and classic equipment, can't fight it.

Note: I used to have a nice collection of Dual TT, 741, 505, 455-1, 630, 701, 704, 1229, 1249. But the group as a whole kept failing. Old age, time just killed most of them. Example, I had three 741's all gone now. Small plastic pieces keep breaking off. Switches constantly needing care, platters stop turning, hum so loud it'd made my head spin; but it was the same for all of them. The 5000's are it for me and Dual tables. They both, been in the shop recently and are on thin ice too.
I really have to start selling stuff instead of buying more.
Couldn't pass this one up though! Had to rearrange some gear to fit this beast into my system. '82 vintage JVC QL-A75!

I did a basic cleanup job with the XA and am currently enjoying it in stock form, but somewhere down the road I will turn into Dr. Frankenstein and make some mods!

HolgerDanske 06-07-2011, 08:57 PM Pulled the opportunistic trigger finger today and bought a real nice turntable: a clearaudio Concept, that has a couple week old Ortofon 2M Blue.
I am elated as I spent well over 100 hours researching what turntable I might get with my budget.
I was pretty much going between Rega P3-24 with an ortofon blue, or mmf5.1 with the same cartridge. Then just one last check very late last night on canuck, and there was my turntable of the future a year old but in my price range.
Got it home, set it up and played Kind of Blue side 1, and the musicwas everything I was missing from my denon dp-29f.
I just knew that fidelity was in there to be had for the right price.
Now to listen to all my albums again with a toothy grin all over me face...

Before I had to sell everything to eat during the last depression (early 80's), I also had a Yamaha, but I cannot remember the model, but it was tied into a CR-1020 that I had just upgraded to from a CR-820. I have always had Yamaha Amps. They've always treated me well, sounded good (especially with a separate Sub), and I just have a good comfort level with them.

I have taken them from my Sony HDR-XR350 at 7.1MP.
I took some HD video playing three songs Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck and played with converting to this or that format and quality settings.
If you have a good bandwidth, try all three and the pictures. Let me know how it sounds on your side. Sounds pretty decent considering the two small microphones in the front of the handycam. Can't get decent stereo spearation where you can hear separate things coming out of each speaker and "in between", and of course the recorder noise itself. meh. its the best I could do...

parvo 06-16-2011, 09:09 AM Nothing exotic or esoteric about a Gemini PT 2400. It has a
Shure M97HE with very low miles and no dust cover that really fits.
I used another PT 2000 to cannibalize parts from and the features
are similar to a 1200 MKII without the dampening that technics
features and the sum of parts are built cheaper. Still sounds very
nice and with a bit of treatment to the platter and cab, the feedback
isolation can be improved. Gimble had a little slack but I adjusted it
out and it seems to be tracking very well. Got it from a military thrift
shop for 25 dollars because the pitch control was off. Took it home
along with the PT 2000 and moved the selector switch from 220 to
110 and they worked perfect.
Now that my Sansui 1000a is done, I am using the Gemini to test the
phono stage.

octaneTom 06-17-2011, 09:10 AM Hello -
New to this forum and new to the whole "hifi" world in general. Here's my 2 month old Pro-ject Xpression III w/ a new Denon DL-110 I just picked up off an AudioKarma user. Installed it last night. Loving the sound that's coming out of this setup now.
Question - remove the stylus guard or keep it on? What's the general consensus?

I'd like to give some kind of valid expertise, but having just got this set up and listened to a few albums, all I can say is it beats the living crap out of my Denon dp-29F and the standard built in non upgradeable cartridge it has.
I hear at least twice as much detail.
So that's with the blue, but have no way to tell the difference against any other cartridge. I can't imagine there being "better" resolution than what is there now, maybe there is some kids actually talking in the background that nobody but the rich guys know about 'cause they got some $4,000 cartridge...
The law of diminishing returns might be so very in front of me on this.
I have Clearaudio maestro thrown in the deal but with a broken off needle, so is it worth a retipping? can it be retipped as is, or on an upgrade just slide on over the an MC?
I'd have to have a lot of spare cash kicking about to "want" to upgrade this.

I suppose it would depend on how expensive the cart is, how many kids/drunkards/clumsy people you have messing with your stuff.

Philips 867! Hopefully soon a dual:-)
Which one is best out of 506, 527, 1229q, or 1258?
They are all good but I would pick the 1229Q as top of the heap.
I would base my purchase decision on condition of the units in question. The 1229 is an idler driven unit whereas the others are, iirc, belt drive. The 1229 is more complex but that just means it requires occasional maintenance.
I recently repaired a 1249 for a lady who had been using a Technics SLB2 as a substitute and couldn't wait to get her Dual back in service. She said it (the 1249) sounded better and has more visual appeal. I can find nothing in that to argue with.

stvn6 06-27-2011, 04:31 PM Humble? The 1200 M3D is an excellent deck! (I know--I own one!)
& I echo your sentiment--I'm madly in love with mine.
Well, I consider the deck to be a work of art and a wonderful performer. I keep it stock (with only the addition of KAB's 'SuperMat'), and it's connected to a modest Technics SA-5400X receiver (driving Genesis 110 speakers). Not to mention that the cartridge is a 'meager' AT95E.
The whole setup seems humble to me, considering the gear that I've had in the past (a complete Carver system, a couple of B&O decks, and a slew of Marantz outfits). This is the first setup that I've had that doesn't leave me wanting anything more. It's a very exciting (and musical) time!
It's all relative, I guess.
Mine is stock w/ the addition of the KAB mat as well. Grado Blue cart, but I sometimes switch out with a couple of Shures, the 97 and the 44, depending on what I want to play.
My system is almost entirely refurbished retro, aside from the new Yamaha CDP (and I splurged there!). And what I would call humble, too--but as you say, musical. The true test of its worth, for me, is that I don't feel like changing or upgrading a thing.

Deacon Jubal 07-04-2011, 10:20 PM OK...have a SL-1300 for parts- feet were missing. I replaced it with a Audio-Technica AT-LP120-USB. Had a Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge on a Technics 1200 headshell already set up. Pulled the AT headshell out and replaced the AT cartridge with the Ortofon. The turntable was a great deal at 140.00 for a refurb. It had one issue- the tonearm clamp was broken. AT sent me a new one. Replace ment was a bit of a hasssle because the screw faced the pivot, not the front. Had to remove the tonearm lift part to access the screw from below the pivot.
Once done, it sounds better than my old tweaked SL-1401 and BIC 980. This was a great deal. I love the bass and detail from the Ortofon. Very worthwhile.

an very old but rare Elac 770H
and a Technics SL-QL15 not a beauty but very functional.
In stock a Sony PS-T30.
Can't express enough love for my Y5. Besides being extremely accurate and quiet, it's virtually foolproof with cueing and so on--makes it a very friendly table for the girlfriend and others who might play my records but aren't as savvy about the need to be careful dropping a stylus on a piece of vinyl. And I can fall asleep or get distracted without having to worry about being there for the end of side, i.e., the stylus running on forever in the runout groove.
I also think it's a very handsome table and I love the size and heft. I use the Shure M97xe with the damper brush down (tracking at 1.75) and get absolutely solid reproduction from even a warped record.
Chiefpa 07-13-2011, 09:09 AM I have my old original favorite bought in 1977, an Empire 698 which now sports a Denon DL110 cartridge. It still looks and works like new. My second is a Philips 312 with a Shure V15mr which to my senior ears sounds pretty good as well. Love my records.
Onelongroove 07-15-2011, 01:50 AM I have been using a Rega Planar 3 since '82. I also still have my first Turntable, a Pioneer PL112D. Im sure there are plenty of photo's of these on this forum!
Funny the things you get nostalgic about. Just cruising around on the 'net I saw this table for sale:SONY-PS-LX300H (http://cgi.ebay.com/SONY-PS-LX300H-BELT-DRIVE-STEREO-DJ-TURNTABLE-SYSTEM-/140443569321) and thought about pulling this out of storage and plugging it back in.
Yes, it's plastic, and the headshell's a bit cheap, but it really sounded pretty good with my Grado Blue. The speed was solid, and the pitch control was a nice feature. It's sort of like a cheap SL-1200.

Zingem 07-28-2011, 03:06 PM Just wondering what you don't like about the 701? Just ordered a restored one from Bill at fixmydual.com.
I'm not saying I don't like the 701. It's a great turntable, and sort of a legend.
But I like the 704 at least as much. It's tonearm seems to 'read' in a more refined way, extracts more details. What does speak in favour of the 701 however is it's impact in the lower regions, perhaps due to its heavier platter. Makes it great for modern music, while the 704 - in my experience- is more allround.
Maybe I've yet to find thé cartridge synergy for the 701. I don't know.
But if the 721 which I hope to get- does prove to be the DD-Dual I've been looking for, I may have to make a choice. Not because I don't like the 701 but for practical reasons. I could use the money to further improve my system. But I won't decide on that in a flash. I'll do some extensive testing to make out which TT plays better to MY ears in MY system. After all I'm the one who didn't come to terms with a nice 1019 yet fell for a 1219. Why? God knows. These things happen.
But make no mistake: the 701 is a great TT which you will love and it's good investment. I think it's also more solidly made than a 704 or 721.
For economic reasons the Duals made from the second half of the '70's onwards got an increasing amount of plastic built into them, to cut down the cost of using metal parts. But soundwise the engineers sort of worked around that limitation for a while, partly by further development of the tonearm.
Maybe the difference between 701 and 704/721 divides Dual (DD) lovers into two camps. I don't know. In the end all top Duals have their own qualities and their own character and that's the main thing. There is no 'best' Dual, like there isn't such thing as thé best turntable (or drive-system for that matter). For one Dual used all types of drives for their TT's, and they tried to experiment with these and then went on to improve upon the results. And all this within reasonable economical limits. They did a great job! We are 30 to 40 years later and still enjoying and discussing these record players!
Enjoy your 701 and don't look back!

Nice collection anonieme, and welcome to AK!
I notice you have coasters under the feet of your PL-505, if it's the same as the PL-707 they should be screw-adjustable leveling feet?
jimtranr 07-31-2011, 02:31 PM Mine's a 1984-vintage SOTA Sapphire dealer-reconditioned in 2002. Mounted is the original Profile-badged Jelco tonearm and a much newer Grado Gold cartridge. As you can see, it sits atop an unusual mounting platform.

After many years in audio,I think it is one of the best and most satisfying amplifiers I ever tried in my room.I really love this amp, especially with Mullard I61 ECC83's.With them it is great.

Yeah...I've listened to it at the audio shop and it was great...so in a home I'm sure its fantastic.
lmorgan79 08-06-2011, 09:17 AM I know it's not an expensive rig, but I got rid of my Denon DP37F, in favor of an MMF 2.2, that I modified with a TT weight, and some closed-cell foam pucks under the feet. Now it has more mass, and better isolation.

Price is not everything. My current system (with the exception of my speakers) is a lot cheaper than previous combinations, and to me it sounds much better than ever before. In fact I feel I don't need to make any changes for a very long time, just concentrate to my music.

Those are great tables...they set you up very well for the next level. I have a 2.1 that was just fabulous in getting me ready for an upgrade.
Currently...
Set up in the living room (what my gf is reluctantly starting to refer to as my man cave) are: Technics SL-1200 M3D with Shure M97xE or Shure M44G (depending on the mood and record) and JVC QL-Y5F with Shure M97xE.
At work, Technics SL-23 with Shure M97xE. And off to the side waiting its turn, my Pioneer PL-31 with Shure M71D (Ortofon cart also set up as an option).
And on my office floor, awaiting a lube job on its cueing lever, a Yamaha YP-D4, currently sans cartridge.
And in a box awaiting an unknown fate, my old plastic Sony PS-LX300H (a plastic Technics 1200 knock off if ever there was one! but with far inferior specs).
JohnVF 08-08-2011, 02:38 PM I was fixing this up for a friend who bought it to resell, and after some debate and help from Rich P's restoration thread, I ended up keeping it. Posted this here.....I dunno, a year or two ago when I first picked it up fot $10 at a garage sale.
Wasn't quite sure what I had but I soon found out it was something special.
I was planning on keeping it all original but one thing lead to another. I picked up a mint condition Syntec S-220 for it for $75 and decided to cut some cherry armboards and mount it.
At that point I was still able to return it to it's stock condition if I chose to do so with the original arm and armboard that I stashed away.
One night while mounting and aligning a cartridge I put the dustcover on the arm of the couch while I went to work on it. It wasn't long before I heard the crash and my undamaged, 100% dustcover was on the floor with a crack and a big chip out of the corner.
That's usually how it goes, someone hangs on to something for 40-45 years and shortly after I take possession it gets trashed. :D
Anyway, I used that as an excuse to do some more work to it. New plinth, spiked feet, smokey grey acrylic top plate, cork platter mat, and a Jico SAS on my M91ED.
It sounds great and looks good as well. I don't feel too bad for not leaving it stock.:thmbsp:

jdscott60 08-18-2011, 06:41 AM BTW, I love this thread! Great stories and photos of the turntables and cartridges we know, own and love, from now and in the past. Right now, I just have two TT's.
1. Technics SL-3200, my daily driver ;^). Purchased at my neighbor's yard sale, with the original box and manual, for a mere $3.00 about 12 years ago (true!). Equipped with a Stanton Discmaster cartridge (first/original release). The cartridge was a gift to me a few years back, brand new in the package, from a young friend of mine whose DJ father had just died unexpectedly. He thought I should have it because I was the only person in the world he knew who had a TT in use at home! He was a heckuva kid and at the time, looking back, I guess I somehow helped him through the decline and loss of his father. Long story I know, but I thought worth telling.
2. Philips GA-212. Great table, love the controls and lights (all working). Unfortunately, the headshell is broken (but apparently repairable, or better yet, replaceable, even?). My son was storing this one for me, and I never even thought to tell him beforehand to remove the platter from the base first before transporting... voila, broken headshell, and totally my bad, not his, and fortunately no other damage to the 212.
Thanks for the look, and thanks also to all for sharing, as well.
Couple of Russco Cue Master turntables on a portable, broadcast console from the owner of a radio station.
Both work and are fully functional, one needs an idler wheel. As a matter of fact the entire console works along with the included microphone/mic. stand that's not shown.
Also picked up a Fisher RFM-1 broadcast monitor unit while I was there.

How's the tonearm on that table, and is that weight worth the money? Saw it on eBay.
Jadran 08-22-2011, 02:17 AM How's the tonearm on that table, and is that weight worth the money? Saw it on eBay.
Hi, tonearm is 8,6 S supplied with Ortofon OM 3E on cheaper mat black color model (mine came with OM5E) or Ortofon 2M Red MM-cartridge on all glossy colored. Headshell and armtube are from a single piece of aluminium. (here are all spec. http://www.project-audio.com/main.php?tech=rpm13&cat=turntables&lang=en )
Weight(s) worth every penny, as I explained in my thread, turntable base got additional 600gr. and much better stability, as the left and right sides are of the same weight (+- few grams) = 1800gr. or equal to the platter.
Marble sphere, glass holder, metal spikes and heavy base for motor cost me about $40USD. Motor is now stable as rock and fixed outside the base.
The cost of all is negligible but the pleasure is priceless
tony3d 08-22-2011, 07:03 AM Nice modification.
