one of those days when it just all comes together? I tell you my friends here at AK, it happened today. And I'll try to keep it short.

Went to the Dentist, got a cleaning, went over to my mom's house (she's 78) and did some good son's chores for her. Beautiful day here in Ohio. Cut the grass, some other odds and ends for her, ran my own errands and got home around 2:00. Threw open the balcony door, warmed up my everyday system, got a beer, threw in a CD (Jackson Browne Solo Acoustic) and headed for the computer.

Going over the usual sites. News, ebay, AK etc...when the sound reached my ears. Damn, this sounds good! Sat at the computer a little longer and finally had to go into my living area and TURN IT UP!

For one of the very few times, I-was-there, it was as if I was in an auditorium. No sibilance, piano and strings rang true, it all came together. A true alignment of the planets. Perfect weather, my mood, I dunno. But, I never heard one of my systems sound better. The system?.....

Sansui BA2000
Dared SL2000A
NAD C521BEe
Sansui SE80 EQ
Yamaha NS1000M's

I've heard that hearing changes thru out the day and that there are a lot of variables when listening but for a brief moment today I found nirvana. Will I find it again, who knows? But for today in that moment I know what I've been chasing for 4 years and maybe for the 1st time say "Thanks" to myself for the thousands of dollars I've spent.

Thousands for 1 moment?....you bet'cha....R1

Going to your mom's and helping out is why things sounded so sweet.

I have sometimes the reverse feeling : nothing to do, it's not ok.
But other times, like right now, a little Sansui tuner, the Marantz 2238B and the WATTs, and I am happy. Just before reading your post, I was telling myself woaahh, that's cool tonite, maybe the light Sansui is Ok with the brutal Marantz.

I think it depends on your mind, but also (I don't know but I suppose) on the true voltage delivered (in France it is from 217v to 240), the hygrometric level, the level of the noise outside... A lot of parameters that you cannot control.

Eh, just small annoyances, nothing major - but one of those Mondays where you sleep late because your alarm wasn't loud enough, drive 30min to get somewhere, realize you forgot one little item that you need, go back, get pulled into doing something else that you didn't plan on, have eight million little obstacles you have to deal with, lol...

I like getting things done quickly, taking all day just to get one thing done bugs the hell out of me, even if it's my fault for part of it :)

my parents aren't that old, but they're retired. it's sad to think that they won't be for long. i don't think it matters how good or bad your parents were raising you - they're still your parents and it's our duty as sons and daughters to give back. it's helps a lot to understand this when you have your own children, and let me tell you that giving back, whether time, financially, love, and etc.), to your parents just feels damn right. does it not?
