View Full Version : Do You Nap before Listening?

After a hard day of work I need a nap to reset my brain. If I don't have a nap, I'm effectively brain dead for the remainder of the evening and will experience listening fatigue.
If I have a nap I'm good to go for 4 or 5 hours of none stop serious music listening, and it sounds great!
How 'bout you? :scratch2:

Heck, many times I nap while listening. That sweet spot between awake and asleep is some of the finest listening ever, but it's hard maintaining that precarious balance.

Markw couldn't have said it any better if I tried, Come home put CD in player, flop on couch, hit start , wake up when over . englissa

That's when you realize CDs are too short. . .Albums are way short. . .If its FM thats when they play commercials. . .

That precarious state "between awake and asleep" is a certain brainwave state. It can be induced by listening to special tones through headphones. A 10 or 15 minute brainwave entrainment track will put you right there, more quickly than a nap.
Listening to some "musicians" will put you half to sleep, too.

I actually prefer to listen to music while I’m tired, often right before bed. :saywhat:
I'll take a nap whenever I'm able. Going to bed certainly doesn't seem to working. But back to the question, I enjoy music more when I'm relaxed.

I have the same view about naps that others have about subwoofers: if you need a nap, perhaps you needed more sleep beforehand.

I start out listening, then I get nice and relaxed and it turns into a nap.

I would only rarely actually sit down for a "listening session". I might sit down, listen, log onto AK , ebay etc, or read the paper.......... I don't recall sitting for more than a few minutes just listening, unless I am out on the veranda having a beer and watching the view.
Does that mean i don't take it seriously enough? :dunno:
I'll take a 20 lay down after work, then listen 'till bedtime or Prison Break, whatever comes first.

Serious listening requires rest for me. Otherwise it's just background music. If I'm too tired I can't focus on the music.
Though like Mark W said, sometimes I start listening to the music and drift off with it. About five minutes is all it takes to reset or reboot.

I don't get a chance to listen very often during the day, but do usually take about an hour nap in the afternoon. Most of my listening is done in the evening between 7pm and midnight. The later it gets, the more I enjoy it. Especially the last hour before going to bed, my mind isn't cluttered by the happenings of the day and the music consumes me.

I fall asleep sometimes while listening, as well. I like doing that...especially when no ones home to say anything about me jamming and falling asleep!

I love coming home from school and cuing up the TT and falling asleep for about 20 minutes before I start studying at night. Sometimes I don't even fall asleep, but I always feel relaxed when I start my work

Im going to have to go with what most have already said.
I'll usually start out listening to the first cd or two, then i either get tired and decide to lay down on the couch instead of just sit in the sweet spot. Which eventually leads to falling asleep. Sometimes with the music quite loud. Other times I just put something relaxing on and fall asleep. I usually get up a few hours later and go to bed. This is one situation where a turntable wouldnt really be the best source.
I generally dont view falling asleep to eric clapton playing at 95db's a bad thing. It just means im relaxed
