I am 45 years old this June and every once in a while I get in the mood for some great Classic Rock. Picked up a copy of Aerosmith's Toys in the Attic the other day. Remastered from the original source tapes by Mr.Vic Anesini in 1993 using true 20 bit "SBM" (Sony Bit Mapping ?) technology.
Usually, I find that these transfers are thin, lifeless and hollow. Not this one! OMG, the kick drums at the beginning of "Walk this Way" played through my twin Sumo Samson subwoofers with Yammie M80 power just knocked me out! I have compression driver/horn mid's and tweets and this mix seems to have just the right level as not to exaggerate and sound too forward.
The music? Do you remember? Classic tunes all the way through. I wish someone would hand Donn Landee a copy and have him to re-think his horrible Van Halen work. Sorry, I just hate those mix/mastering jobs he did. Thank you Mr.Vic Anesini, you did a wonderful job! Now I can whip out my big ten inch (record of my fav-o-rite blues).

Donn Landee was the engineer on every single Van Halen album, correct?

As far as I can tell. At least all the first 5-6. Dammit. I love to listen to them every once in a while, but the sound is crummy. I've listened to them on a wide range of different systems and it always sounds bad. Really good systems too.

I have listened to Gems and Pandora's Box several times recently. That early Aerosmith balls out rock and roll is good stuff. I've always like Joe Perry's "patience", and you are right about Joey Kramer. That guy is an amazing drummer. I wonder what he thought when they started writing those lameass ballads.

I've been wondering if the SACD is worth getting. :scratch2:

Perhaps: "Keep those paychecks coming, pink may be Steven Tyler's favorite color, but mine's green."

I'm going to pick up a copy of "Rocks" this weekend  I hope Vic did that remaster/transfer too. I'm like a kid again, well almost. Great music, great memories. Those two albums were my first rock purchases as a young man. I'd love to hear the SACD on my HT system, it's not so bad for music, but i still love the dedicated 2ch stuff.

"Rocks" was one of my first two 8-tracks (c1977 or so), and I've loved it ever since. Classic rock and roll. A must have for any classic rock fan.

"Rocks" is where it's at with Aerosmith in my books. Killer album.

Rocks was my first Aerosmith album, but it scared me (hardest thing by far I had ever heard in my life up to that point). Toys in the Attic was more my cup of tea at the time (I got it shortly thereafter, based on advice from my friends). Great album from beginning to end.
One of these days my band and I are going to cover "Sweet Emotion".

If you can find it get your hands on the SACD of Toys In The Attic, it's incredible!

I agree. They did a great job with this title.

I've got both the SACD and the LP. The SACD sounds better, only because I've been playing the CRAP out of the LP since I was in my teen years. GREAT stuff.

Me too. Makes me wonder what a lightly used LP would sound like? My LP is beyond playing, I've had it since it came out, I think I was 12.

First concert, Aerosmith and Rush just released their second albums, "Get Your Wings" and "Fly By Night." Small 3,000 seat auditorium built for the unamplified performances with side boxes and all. Great sound and great show. Was in the orchestra pit all night. So close I could of pulled Tyler right down off with his scarf and all. This is back in the day of smoking the shit right in the open and easily taking alcohol inside. Geddy Lee came out with half a bottle of whiskey and finished it and came down and grabbed ours (which was setting on the front of the stage) and took a big old hit and took it with him and by the end of the show, I swear he drank all of it. I never seen anyone drink so much whiskey. I gotta tell ya, I seen alot of it in my days in the Marine Corps Infantry (many heavy drinkers) for four years and he beat them all, and everyone to this day. Still to this day after many, many concerts, Aerosmith and Rush together in early years was the best, especially together. By the way, back then they each played for almost 2 hours apiece. Not like todays performances where your lucky to get a good hour. Those were the days my friend...
