I bought an infiinity sound surround system a couple of years ago- HTS-20.
Good system, nice sound but I hear mild (you can hear it in a quiet room if you listen and happen to be sitting near it) transformer(?) hum.

Are there any remedies for this?

thanks

Can you tell if the hum is coming from the the sub driver or the plate amp.If it is coming from the amp it is probably either a loose transformer winding or mounting bolt or if it is a IE transformer a loose laminated plate. If the sound is coming from the speaker I would suspect a power supply filtering issue(leaky cap).
Verify all rca connectors are clean and securely plugged in.(ground loop)

Dave,

I connected the subwoofer with unshielded cables because the (provided) Y-connection at the receiver output was not shielded. Would using a better shielded cable reduce the hum (which is almost inaudible on second inspection)? Is that what you meant by rca (ground)? I see no ground connection like with a turntable.

I worked on f4e phantoms WCS from 1974-78. Was stationed at Ft. Walton Beach at Eglin (should have bought a house then) and Clark in the PI. I see you're retired AF. Looks like an f15 eagle to me. Saw a new one at Eglin before I went overseas. Became a mailman and am now short.

At any rate.
Thanks for your help.
regards
bob

Yes I was refering to the rca phono plugs/jacks red/white or red/black.
I was stationed at Eglin AFB for 14-15 years - 33rd fighter wing. Sunny Fort Walton Beach..
