It's not nice to gloat, but that's half the fun of a nice haul. Thanks to my wonderful wife who has decorated our whole house from garage sales, she tipped me off to this church flea market today, mainly because of the advertised electronics. Well, no electronics other than VCRs, but aside from over 50 nice classical recordings including many Angel and Philips at 20 cents a piece were these seven boxed sets (5 records in each), mint, appear never played and the programs never even looked at. It's as if they took off the plastic wrap, put them away, and forgot to play them. A buck per box. Life is good (at least today).

Those are nice. Deutsche Grammophon put out a good product. I have one of those, have to go looking for it now. I kind of called a moratorium on box sets, they take up a lot of space. That set, though, would have had to come home with me. We have a flea coming up at my kid's school and there are people who know that I'll be there looking for vinyl (or tape).

I was lucky to find the whole bicentennial collection about a year or 2 ago. I think that most of the recordings were released by DGG as individual records. I know that the violin concerto is the same.
Did you pick up any of the Philips classical? It is one of my favorite classical labels. They just always seem to sound really good.

Well, Dan, there's something about boxed sets that's just irresistable. For one thing, they're usually in excellent condition. Yes, I am running out of room. :)
JB, you said you picked up the entire bicentennial collection. The seven boxes I bought--is that the entire collection or are there more?
Regarding the Philips, for some reason I was thinking there were many, but as it turns out only one, Handel's Water Music w/Am. Concertgebouw. Lots of Ormandy/Phil, which is not unusual here in Philly, but I could never afford major labels when growing up, so my original collection was mostly budget classical like Odyssey, Seraphim, etc. Now it's so wonderful to be able to buy for almost nothing what I could never have afforded back then. I guess that's also why I instinctively go for the boxes.
