View Full Version : Determining the age of my MC250...

I'm sure it's been asked before many times, but I'm a newbie here, transplanted from the Klipsch Forums (a very helpful lot there), so I'm curious and just gotta ask...

When I bought my MC250 awhile ago, the seller told me he thinks the amp was built in 1973, but wasn't sure since he himself wasn't the original owner. According to Roger Russell's McIntosh website, the MC250 was built between 1967 to 1979. Can the age of my amplifier be determined from it's serial number stamped on it's side? The number (which is quite faded) is "88L52". Can age of a Mac component be determined from other markings or stamped numbers other than its serial number?

If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

I suggest calling McIntosh. They will help you anyway they can
with info and manuals. You should have the serial number on the
chassis underside as well.

One of my 250's was bought new in 1970. It is serial # 31L61. I bought a second 250 and was told by the guys at McIntosh that they were not able to date the amp from the serial number.

Thanks for your replies, Carl and Bill. Guess I'll need to call McIntosh Labs; I sent them an e-mail but haven't received a response yet...I'm sure they're busy and only have time for customer service questions only.
