I've got 8 CDPs here, can't use 'em all.

Which to keep?

none are top of the line. In fact, they are mid-level or lower.

An aside- I like single disc players, but multi-players are beneficial to me because I don't move well from injuries. Just to keep in mind...

Okay- here's what I have-

Sony CDP-102 Single disc, tray load. It's old, heavy, and features a compact body. Dusty, may work fine, but currently needs a cleaning.

Sony CDP-491 Single disc, tray load.

Teac PD-325 Single disc, tray load. May be the best sounding of them all, going from memory.

Yamaha CD-X1 Single disc, tray load. Compact body.

Yamaha CDC-645 changer, 5 disc tray load.

Mitsubishi DP-409 R changer, 6-disc magazine-style changer. Somewhat old, and somewhat heavy. Takes an odd, large style magazine, which needs to be sourced and replaced. But once done, this could be a competitor.

Optimus CD-7100 changer, 6-disc magazine-style changer. "1 bit technology, professional series", lots of extra features.

Optimus CD-7250 changer, 6-disc magazine-style changer "1 bit technology, professional series", lots of extra features.

Of all of these, none have optical or digital outs,so I'm stuck with whatever built-in DACs are inside.

I've also got a pair of more current DVD/CD changers- a Pioneer and a JVC. These have optical and/or Digital out.

Maybe the best way is to go with the DVD/CD changers and a DAC.

But until then, what's going to give me the best sound, do you think?

OK, Paul, here's the obnoxious high-end answer:

Sell them all and buy one really good one.

Here's my thinking:

If it's all about the music, then once you have one really good system that you're happy with, a collection of stuff makes sense. It makes little sense to spread your money around on a lot of boxes you don't use when you're still hunting for the sound you want. Get the sound first, then collect. Just my 2c.

There are some really good CDPs that can be had for the total price of all the one's you're hoarding. Get thee to the classifieds or an auction site, my friend.

Thats pretty much the philosophy I am taking these days...I am selling everything to end up with a Sansui G-9000, Vandersteen 2ce's, Vandersteen 2w's(2), a Thorens TD-160, and my Samsung DVD which is a great little cd-player..I am keeping my 9090DB to start a smaller office system, but the rest is going on the bay!

You may have answered your own question Paul... here is a suggestion for a 3-stage solution.

1) If the Teac is the best sounding of the bunch, keep it and get rid of the rest.

2) Use the proceeds of the liquidation to acquire a nice sounding unit of your choice... look for a more current model with digital outputs. A new unit is worth consideration.

3) Consider an external DAC of your choice if you wish to raise the bar any further on the sound output.

Please please please stay away from the Samsung player. It sucks.
If you want a low (<300$) player get youself the Oppo 981. Only drawback is no component out, only HDMI and composite/S.
It sounds really good, reallllly good. Not great but good. The video portion is effin great, upscales to 1080p if you need.
