Would any one know if horizontal ( base ) mounting for the Peerless 850500 XLS 12" woofer would be recommended.
It weighs in at a moving mass of 166 grams which seems fairly high and may cause the woofer to inaccurately reproduce waveforms. Any thoughts?

With that much mass, I'd be worried more about long-term sag of the suspension, facing down.

One thing you can check- if you have the Mms and Cms figures, find out how much the cone will sag at rest, with it facing down.

Here's the basic formula: Convert the Mms to kilograms, and the Cms to Newtons/meter, and then:

Distance sagged= D= 9.8*Mms/Cms, where D will be in meters.

Convert that to millimeters... the standard rule-of-thumb is, if it's sagging more than 10% of Xmax, then DO NOT use it facing down...

Gordon.

forgive my thickness...
Mms is 166 grams
Cms is 0.46 mm/N
xmax is 12.5mm (one way)
can any bright sparks out there work this out for me?
