In San Francisco of all places don't be afraid or too shy to address the girls. We have lots of 25-35 year old female family & friends in the Bay Area who constantly bemoan the dearth of available, straight males for dating & other purposes. The young (and not-so-young) males of the LA region wish they had the opportunities you Bay Area lads have. Not to be crass, but I'm in agreement w/ onepixel: go get 'em!

I miss San Francisco. I was there briefly by myself before my now wife moved out with me. I never met so many women in my life. As much as it sounds like a joke, there just aren't a ton of straight single guys. It's really something. Wish like hell I had been there in my younger, less attached days.

As for confidance, you have to look at it like this- first time you do something you suck at it. Next time you're a little better. Talk to a girl. Yeah, you might end up sounding stupid, but next time you'll be a little better. Before you know it....
