Hi guys and gals, first post here on your fine forum. I'll start by saying I'm a relative noob to the home audio world, after years of being addicted to car audio. I've been lurking around here for a few weeks, and have become very interested in searching out my own vintage stereo equipment.

To that end, I've been stopping by Goodwills and various other thrift stores. Today, I stumbled across a pair of Sansui S32-U speakers, in very good condition. They were an 8" 3-way design according to the paperwork still stuck to the back. I couldn't remove the grills to inspect the drivers, and I was 10 bucks shy of their $30 pricetag. Can someone shed some light on these for me, and let me know if these are worth picking up? I feel comfortable doing a refoam job if needed. I've searched here and thru Google and found nothing on these speakers.

Thanks in advance.:)

Well I'll give you my opinion. I'd probably look elsewhere. I couldn't find that model number in the Blue Book but I did find a S-25U and a S-35U. Both were circa 1990 and are 2 ways with the 35U having an 8"woofer. Sansui is not highly regarded as a speaker manufacturer and in fact their name is slapped on some really shi$$y speakers. If you are looking for a decent sized vintage bookshelf type speaker you'd do best to ask some of the other AK'ers. Of course bookshelf in vintage terms doesn't necessarily mean SMALL.

Having owned a pair of S65-U's (the 12" 3-way big brother of this one), I'd say that I'd be hesitant to put $30 into these where they are. Not a BAD speaker, just kinda un-remarkable. Looks like a late-80's rack-system speaker AFAIK.

I'd really think, that for $30 at a thrift store, you should look around and wait until something else better comes in at that price... such as a pair of Large Advents, a pairof Marantz Imperial 4s, some early KLH stuff, or maybe a pair of EPI M100s, anything of that ilk. In fact, I just bought a pair of EPI 100Ws, later model of the M100 series... was priced at $29.99, but it was 1/2 off day today! Woo hoo! They need refoam, but at that price...

Regards,
Gordon.

I think I will pass on these speakers. I'm not in a huge rush for a home system, and don't have tons of money to spend on stuff just 'cause it's there. Thanks for the replies. I will keep looking.
