View Full Version : Favorite Year For Releases? cicero2 04-18-2007, 10:46 AM not sure if this topic has already been discussed here, but what years featured the release of many of your favorite records? for me: 1967, 71, 77, 97 (what is it with all these 7s?) Sandy G 04-18-2007, 10:57 AM I can find something good in almost any year-at least until cRap & hip/hop took over.Prolly the best for me would be 1969-89, though. slow_jazz 04-18-2007, 11:34 AM Probably 1980-1985 was the best for me. MTV was just starting and great bands were everywhere. tentoze 04-18-2007, 01:02 PM Every year. CarlV 04-18-2007, 01:02 PM Pretty much leave out the 1980's and it's all good. :music: Carl onepixel 04-18-2007, 01:05 PM Every year for me too. But in the more recent years it's been getting harder. I must be getting old. Drybasement 04-18-2007, 01:14 PM Oh, I don't know. Primarily the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s. mhardy6647 04-18-2007, 01:26 PM 1971 was pretty good as I recall. dmax99 04-18-2007, 08:37 PM Seems like I like alot of stuff that was released in 1970,twas a very good year for music.... Filmboydoug 04-18-2007, 08:39 PM IIRC, The Wall and AJA both came out in 1979. That would be it for me. theWB 04-18-2007, 09:18 PM Pretty much leave out the 1980's and it's all good. :music: Carl Agreed!!! opt80 04-18-2007, 09:41 PM I can find some goodies every year arrow 68 04-18-2007, 10:05 PM Late 60's, through the 70's. Victor 04-18-2007, 10:10 PM So many great years to choose from but I have to pick 1967 as my favorite. Beatles-Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Doors-The Doors Jimi Hendrix Experience-Are You Experienced Moody Blues-Days Of Future Passed The Velvet Underground & Nico A year that changed music  1967. Victor Buzzer 04-18-2007, 10:47 PM So many great years to choose from but I have to pick 1967. Beatles-Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Doors-The Doors Jimi Hendrix Experience-Are You Experienced Moody Blues-Days Of Future Passed The Velvet Underground & Nico The year that changed music  1967. Victor Victor you just beat me to it. 1967 just stands out, especially guitar wise IMO. :smoke: Grateful Dead Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillow Cream - Disraeli Gears Stones - Between the Buttons Albert King - Born Under A Bad Sign Magical Mystery Tour Art K. 04-18-2007, 11:01 PM Pretty much leave out the 1980's and it's all good. :music: Carl Agreed, and even the "80's had REM. Yamaha Nutz 04-18-2007, 11:02 PM 69 - 79 minus the Disco e2e4c7c5 04-19-2007, 12:44 AM 1971 was pretty good as I recall. Yes, it was!! :music: Doors - LA Woman The Who - Who's Next Led Zeppelin - IV Actually every year from 1965 to 1979 was really pretty great!! Dusty Chalk 04-19-2007, 05:28 AM I have a hard time deciding on a favourite release from 1989. I also remember 1973 having some good ones. But I'm with tentoze -- there's lots of good stuff in every year. pmsummer 04-19-2007, 09:27 AM Pretty much leave out the 1980's and it's all good. :music: Carl Cool! If we leave out the '80s, I haven't turned 50 yet! :thmbsp: ekmanning5 04-19-2007, 09:29 AM 1971 was pretty good as I recall. I agree, whether it was because the music was great or because I was an impressionable 15 year old who couldn't get enough music is hard to say. Mystic 04-19-2007, 02:02 PM Pretty much leave out the 1980's and it's all good. Carl But Carl, if we skip the 80s we miss these Bathory gems: Bathory (1984) The Return (1985) Under the Sign of the Black Mark (1987) Blood, Fire, Death (1988) It also happens that my favorite private press LPs, both by Bobb Trimble, were released in 1980 and 1982. (But I think Bathory makes a stronger case for including the 1980s) CarlV 04-19-2007, 02:49 PM But Carl, if we skip the 80s we miss these Bathory gems: Bathory (1984) The Return (1985) Under the Sign of the Black Mark (1987) Blood, Fire, Death (1988) It also happens that my favorite private press LPs, both by Bobb Trimble, were released in 1980 and 1982. (But I think Bathory makes a stronger case for including the 1980s) Agreed! :) There is the pretty much part. I think about 2 years worth of quality releases in the decade. I also appreciated Dio's firsttime with the Sab's. I saw the Mob Rules show at the sh**hole Cow Palace and it was so cool I drove to UC Davis to see it again. My homeboys Metallica, some other real gems but kinda sad overall. Carl cicero2 04-19-2007, 07:22 PM CarlV - my dad saw sabbath's first us tour. since they played the songs in the order on the album, he thought they weren't actually playing. not that i was there, or even conceived, but i thought maybe they played them in album order because they go tegether perfectly that way CarlV 04-19-2007, 08:14 PM I missed the first US tour, my first Black Sabbath show was the Master Of Reality 1971 at Winterland. Carl andy 04-19-2007, 09:41 PM Most people seem to favor the music that was popular when they were teenagers. I've always been out of step with music. I like almost everything except what my friends liked when I was a teen. Most of my favorites are from the 80's and 2000's. I also agree that there was a lot of good music in the 60s and 70s, but I can't think of much from the 90's that I really like. cicero2 04-20-2007, 05:06 PM check out the band (smog), a nineties band. for some reason, they sound great even thru tubes. Duane 04-20-2007, 05:17 PM '67 Texas42 04-20-2007, 06:13 PM Don't recall which specific year had the most, but the best 3 year span for me was from 76-78 when you had tons of great albums and artists coming out. Frampton comes alive, Heart (Dreamboat Annie, Little Queen) Journey (Infinity), Boston, Kansas (Leftoverture, Point of Know Return); Fleetwood Mac (Fleetwood Mac, Rumours); Steve Miller (Fly Like an Eagle); Styx, Yes (Going for the One); Eagles; Bob Seger (Night Moves) etc...Seems like almost every album during this period ended up being a classic and I know I'm forgetting tons more. eljr 04-20-2007, 06:45 PM Victor you just beat me to it. 1967 just stands out, especially guitar wise IMO. :smoke: Grateful Dead Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillow Cream - Disraeli Gears Stones - Between the Buttons Albert King - Born Under A Bad Sign Magical Mystery Tour The answer is clearly 67. Tubejunke 04-21-2007, 12:51 AM Carl V said something along the lines of all the rock years to be good, just leave out the 80's Agreed!!! Ditto!! cicero2 04-21-2007, 12:04 PM gotta say that there were great releases in the 80's big black - the atomizer the fall - this nation's saving grace the cure - faith (friend of mine who hates thin 80's produciton says of this rec. Danger Boy 04-21-2007, 12:53 PM for me it would have to be 1971 (Carole King Tapestry released), 1976 (Frampton Comes Alive released), 1976 (Hotel Calif the Eagles released), 1977 (Fleetwood Mac Rumors released). 1979 (Led Zep - IN thru the out door released) 1982 (Led Zep - Coda released) plus I like alot of the 80's music.. to much to list. markb 04-21-2007, 02:36 PM The '60's Folk ,Jazz ,and Rock were all great. |
