I picked up a really nice JVC TT and this is the cartridge istalled on it. I would like to know anything I can about this as I have never seen one before. It sure does sound nice though.

Wow, that was fast. The picture on vinylengine is backwards but sure enough...looks like a winner. It says 2/4 channel MM. Interesting!
Thanks Trianglezerius!

A "Shibata" stylus, very interesting. I found this info at http://www.needleexpress.com/faq.htm
Line Contact
Also known as "Shibata," "Hyperelliptical," "Fine Line," "Stereohedron," this shape is a further extension of the basic elliptical design. This stylus shape was originally developed in Japan and provides much greater contact with the record, offering the combination of high trackability with less record wear. Carefully aligned, this type will offer a better high frequency and improved trackability. This type of cut will give you three times the footprint area within the record groove walls as other stylus cuts. Besides lasting approximately twice as long as other styli, the Line-Contact stylus tip will significantly reduce record wear. As your records are the one part of your music collection that is irreplaceable.

Thanks it sounds great...especially for 25 bones! I have a bunch of tables but this one seems to sound better than all of them. Even my Rega P3/Grado combo.

Great find! They're selling for $300 on ebay. I've got one (paid a lot more than you did) and it's a great sounding table.
JVC produced some notable cartridges specifically for quad and this was one of them. A shibata stylus and a high frequency range was necessary for quad reproduction.
