I'll be in Manhattan for a business trip over the next few days. Any used vinyl shops worth checking out? I'll mainly be on the upper east side. and midtown, but I'm willing to take a taxi to other points not too distant.

There are two or three awesome used vinyl shops on St. Marks Place (E 8th Ave) from 1st to 3rd street I think. One is Kims Mondo Video upstairs which has new and used with turntables for listening. And another couple of places for the next couple of blocks as you go east on St. Marks. These are even better. Bring a TON of money. The records are not overpriced, they are generally in good condition and you will most likely find albums you have been looking for. Budget accordingly. Good thing is they are open late. Good Luck!
Also elsewhere in manhatten is OM music at 15 E 14th street has awesome hard to find new LPs

Across from Kim's is Rocket Scientist. KILLER psych, avante, prog shop. The owner is a little agro, but a nice guy and has VERY reasonable pricing. Also the there is Bleeker (Bleaker?) Street records, Rebel Rebel, Other Music, and Academy has two shops in Manhattan one classical (good for Nonesuch electronic stuff) and one with rock and jazz. I would put Academy, Rocket Scientist, and Other Music on my short list.

Yes, Academy Records is must. If you're not looking for all classical records (even though they have some) it's on East 10th St. between 3rd and 4th Ave. Open from Noon to late, 7 days a week.
