Would it be possible to use a standard straight headshell on a straight tonearm? Would music quality change if I do this? Headshell included in the TT I recently bought is the angled one. Thanks

Thanks Brian4561 04-20-2007, 02:28 AM I'm no expert, but i think you have to use a headshell designed for a straight tonearm on straight tonearms. If you use one made for a S type arm, you will likely never be able to properly align the cartridge, which could harm the cartridge and the vinyl. EchoWars 04-20-2007, 03:57 AM The angle between the cart and the media being played is a rather critical thing...if your turntable is supposed to have an angled headshell, you cannot put a straight one on there. ozmoid 04-20-2007, 10:00 AM A straight headshell on a straight arm will give you a DJ turntable - impossible to align the cart at more than one point in the arm sweep, very hard on your stylus, very hard on your vinyl. :thumbsdn: hakaplan 04-20-2007, 01:34 PM It's unfortunate that Sony and some other mfrs chose to use angled bayonet headshells on their straight tonearms, rather than the more standardized plug-in types. Apparently no one has taken on the task of producing generic ones, and finding extra originals is virtually impossible. I like to have extra headshells to quickly swap out cartridges and it's the main reason I have avoided any of those turntables. |
