A 2250B that I was watching just went for $510.00 dollars on EBAY. Am I missing something? Isn't that way over priced?A 2252B which seems to be prefered by some went for under $400.00 earlier in the week. Both units were in similar condition.

I'm wondering did the buyer just get in a pissing contest with someone and went higher than he'd plan to. Or, if it went so high because of the great detailed pictures the seller used in the auction.

I've been looking to add the 2275, 2270 or 2250b to my collection (it'll be my 8th Marantz unit). I know a lot of people like the 2270 but some worry about it driving 4 ohm loads, right now I'm leaning towards the 2275 what are your opinions of these three models (I'm not intersted in the higher watt units my current most powerful Marantz is only 65 WPC)?

I have a 2270 which is not working right, so I can't say for certain there. I have a 2250B though which really impresses me enough to want to get another one. I paid 112$ US for that one. I recently got a 2226 which sounds just as good as the 2250B and it was only 80$ in better condition. There probably all good in the 22xx series.

I've found that some of mine are more impressive than others. Some in sound quality others in build quality. For example my 2220 seems to have a better build quality than my 2230 maybe it's because the 2230 is older. My 2245 seems to have the best sound quality followed by my 2265. My newest addition, a 2238 is well built and sounds good but doesn't seen to have the magic of some of the other units. I've been considering a 2226b for quite some time, in fact at the last second I chose the 2238 over the 2226b then regreted it later.

I never really understood what the 4 ohm issue is with the 2270. The service manual lists 4 ohm speakers. I have driven 8 ohms home builts and now 4 ohm OHM L s with it ( not at the same time...) for some time with no issue. Think you just need to not go over board with volume level.

lets see ,in their order of acquisition, i have a 2240b,2270,2252b,2275 and a 2325.
i love the looks of the 2252b,but for the for sound and power the 2325 has to be my fav:banana: . i just had terry dewick set it up for me and he said it was reading 150 watts per channel at .1%THD.
the marantz units of that era just seem to be going up in price all the time!

let see if i can remember what i paid for each of mine, ball park of course:
2240b,under $50,2270 with wood case ,$200,2252b $100,2275 $125,2325 $199. of the 2275 or the 2270,i would get the 2275....

I have had (and passed on) or worked on quite a few Marantz receivers. The 2270 was my least favorite. The 2235B was my favorite sounding. I was not impressed with the 2245. I would go for a 2275 over a 2270.
Just my opinion of course.

I'm strongly leaning towards the 2275. Looks like it may come down to whether or not my wife and I by a bigger house. I have the bigger music room in our smaller house. The bigger house is much nicer but I'd have to seriously cut back my aquisitions. I'll probably shop for a mint restored one as I love my restored 2265.

I paid that much for my mint 2252B. But I also got the original box, woodcase, manuals, receipts and stuff. Same for my 2265B. I recently restored a 2275 for half the price. They are all great sounding Marantz. But I think the 2275 might have the slightest edge over the two.

Those higher prices are what dedicated Marantz collectors are paying. I used to collect Marantz and wouldn't pay that much for one now.

A 2275 that has been properly recapped, adjusted, bulbs replaced, etc., will go for alot of money on that auction site. Especially if it has a wood case along with it. And it is probably worth it, unless you can do the work yourself- if you can, I can't think of any model that has more potential for "sweat equity". The difference between what I just described and a "fixer-upper" is literally hundreds of dollars.

The 2250b is very similar to the 2275. Those two, along with the 2325, were sold simultaneously, and are covered by a very informative brochure that someone once posted scans of on here. The 2250b is comparatively rare, and a very nice sounding unit.:music:

I have owned the 2250B for a long time and think it's the best 22xx Marantz made looks and sound wise. My 2235 comes close BUT I would not pay that kind of $$$ for it. That IMO really too high for that unit even in mint conditon by about $250.00.
Many Ebay bidders are emotional and can really drive any auction up. Sellers love it.
