Anyone ever encounter a Teac X-1000R that stops keeping elasped play time?
Mine does great until it gets past 2 1/2 hours, then it slows down and just quits. Then to make matters worse it won't decrement elasped time when reverse play is used. All the while it's plays and records without any problems.

I would check to make sure the roller on the right side between the capstan/pinch roller and the tension arm is turning easily without binding and the rubber "treads" on the roller are clean. This roller has a bowtie shaped wheel on the back end of the shaft inside the cabinet that rides in the gap of a send/receive sensor that provides the signal for the tape counter. Sorry but I can't recall the proper name for the roller. If it is binding the signal the elapsed time display would not change.
