A couple years ago I picked up a 5560 on ebay for .99 plus shipping 18-20 dollars. It was one of those"for parts or repair". It was in real bad shape-Looked like it had been dropped.I proceeded in a total rebuild after obtaining a service manual from Yamaha.
1.Totally disassembled unit and meticulously inspected all the PC assemblies for cracks and breakage.Found the tone control PC broken in half and the transformer PC with 5or6 cracks around a chassis mounting screw.
2. The main chassis was tweaked real bad. This required a square block of steel and a hammer to return the chassis
back into shape.(bodywork).
3.Reassembled all except for the damaged boards.
4.First photo shows Tone control PC with red line representing the approx. location of crack.Yamaha wanted $129 for a replacement - Didn't want to spend that much so..using enameled wire,a fine tip soldering iron and many hours working under a magnifying glass.Scraping enamel and pc traces.I repaired all broken tracesThen reinforced the board with a bead of 2 part epoxy along the crack.-reinstalled the board in the HTR.
5.The second picture shows the approx. locations of the cracks on that board. For the wider traces I used pieces of solderwick for jumpers and again enameled wire for the finer connections and followed with the epoxy treatment.-Reinstalled in the main chassis.
6. Moment of truth!! Applied power...Display powers up-no error messages..Invoked the maintenance menu through the front panel controls-scrolled thru all the menus and compaired results with the default settings..No problems noted.Hooked unit up to all six channels,a multi-disk CD player and my 50" Sony and haven't moved it since.I'm sure there are fancier and pricier models .If I need more power this unit has pre-outs for all channels.:scratch2:  :thmbsp:
