View Full Version : Toshiba amp?

....So my buddy gives me a Toshiba sb-m56 stereo amplifier last nite. Could anyone enlighten me with how many watts it produces? I couldn't find a damn thing about it on the Internet. I'm guessing 50-60 watts per channel.
Looks to be 1990ish to me (and with that I mean to say FUGLY!!!)

:)

It works fine, but it really hurts my eyes. Annnnd, it doesn't seem to push my speakers any more than my Luxman r-1050....:scratch2:

Thanks

Matt

I'd post a pic but some of you may have just eaten.

Toshiba prefix SB seems to indicate integrated amps.
I looked in my 1997 Orion and that model is not listed.

Yes, it's integrated, but the model # on the front is followed w/"Stereo Amplifier".....

I thought that was weird.

But...I just got done w/a listening session w/Soundgarden. Them Corals get a mite loud.

Thanks for lookin'.

Ok, you asked for it!

Like I said; not winning any beauty-contests..... ever.

You can see the no-worky Fisher amp it is resting on as well.

:)

Sorry again for bad pics, dark basement w/bad camera.

DAMN that thing is ugly!

How does it sound?

Meh.

It certainly produces more power than my Luxman; but it seems muddy to me. The clarity that I am used to hearing is gone. But it sure gets things LOUD in a hurry!

Oops. think I just pooped my pants.

and that chicken salad I had for lunch?

Well, it sprung from my stomache and is now a soupy burning gurgle in the back of my throat.

That's the "Star Wars" design concept that seemed to grip a good portion of ill-advised designers of some hifi after the popularity of the Star Wars films. Or at least the first two films did.

Ever see the Galaxy Comander from Kenwood? A great receiver, but to me, the styling is as appealing as a chrome-plated turd. With brass corn nuggets.

Congrats on the new find. Even ugly children need love, too.

I think sound design was the worst offender:yes: ,using plastic charts & graph stickers on all their gear.

Team up & star wars model sound design with some chrome dust cap panasonic thrusters & you'll really have somethin:thmbsp:

I saw a couple of these years ago in the used department. Can't find info at all anywhere. Waht's the wattage consumption/amperage rating in the back?

Dang, son. You've found a piece of gear that actually makes that dead Fisher look understated and classy.

Let me remind EVERYONE that this was given to me and it works!

;)

I am just happy to have an amp; I am holding out to spend money on something that looks entirely UNlike this one!!!

:)

So it's a mystery amp huh? No info... on the back it says AC 120V 60Hz and the outlets are 100w switched and 200w unswitched.

And you should see the rest of the "Rent-A-Center" Fisher system that goes w/the other amp! OOOf!

There's no listing for this model in my 98' Blue Book.

There are others with similar model numbers though ranging in wattage from 20-45 wpc.

I have an toshiba SA-R10 that I got at a garage sale for 6 or 7 bux, which in my book is free. Cosmetically and functionally a 9. It's a pretty li'l unit, which I will photo at some point to try to heal the eyes of the toshiba damaged. I hooked it up in my bedroom setup and it sounded good.

Don't let 'em hurt your feelings, Matt. I'm listening to a marantz TA-100 right now, and it's widely reviled. Only problem with the critics' arguments is the receiver works great and sounds great.

It might be O.K. if you keep it hid in a basement system or somewhere, where guests in your home won't see it! :para:
Or you could bring it out to get unwanted guests to leave! :yikes:

To each his own, I think it looks pretty cool :thmbsp:
I dig that late 80s tacky electronics look.

What's the wattage consumption and amperage rating, if any?

It's even uglier than my Onkyo TX-65, and that is saying something. Congratulations, you win. Please remember to enter it in the ugliest receiver thread from last year.

Sorry Jebus, you can kinda guess at the wattage if you have the other numbers. Not exact science but close.

It's cool. I just wondered how many watts it produced. Thanks!
