I was just thinking, is this just as bad as with the rest of the hi-fi gear? Does the bug also bite for CDP's?

I have 8 and hopefully one more coming soon.

Including all cars, computers and old discman's and such? A CDP is a CDP?
Nineteen (that work). Now that I count 'em I feel kind of sick.

Just the one, a Sony CDP-302. Bought it new in 1985, and did a lot of heavy mods on it. It'll blow most CDPs away which is why I don't need another one. Just give it the occasional drop of oil and it should last another 20 years

Yes I think we shall include the portables, a CDP is a CDP - even if you can carry it around.

But not car audio unless it is a CDP only, no radio, no tape, no power amp built in, no nonsense.

Computers are not CDP's and CD-R drives are only transports, so

And this just brings me up in the last group… shhh…

12 dedicated units.

3 portable.

1 "boombox".

3 DVDs- yes, I know we're not counting. But the reason I mention those is because they feature both optical & digital out- I'm going to thin the herd soon, and with the ability to run an external DAC in the future, the DVD players may very well remain in the mix.

I've got a 1983/1984 Yamaha CX-1 and a 1983/1984 Sony CDP-102 that may come up as an auction for AK (I need to check the condition of the Sony- it's dirty, I think, and I'm also considering offering up an integrated amp instead of the players).

The Sony CDP-491 Single tray load or the Teac PD-325 Single tray load will be going home with my friend Andy. The other? Fate undecided.

The Yamaha CDC-645 changer- fate undecided. Maybe kitchen use.

The Mitsubishi DP-409 R 6-disc magazine changer was left here by an AKer, missing the loading cartridge. I finally got one off the 'Bay, and is arriving next week. Hopefully it will work. If so, fate undecided.

The Optimus CD-7100 changer was a gift from my friend M Hardy, but it gave up the ghost so will be buried shortly- unless someone needs parts.

The Optimus CD-7250 changer will be much loved by a girl named Amber. Hubba Hubba Hubba.

Keepers? Great deals on four CDPs recently. Two Sony CDP-308ESDs on the way- one for spare parts. One Sony CDP-C75ES here at my house, one CDP-C75ES on the way for spare parts. These are guaranteed. The rest, we'll see.

As for the portables, one RCA & one Sony I'll give to my niece and to Mommy dearest, one Sony I'll keep around for personal use. Found it in the trash- works great, looks like it was parked on.

1 "boombox". Bathroom duty.

3 DVDs (I know, we're not counting)- one for movies, two may make the cut for CDs, or may be sold off- one is a 3 disc changer, one is a 5 disc changer. Gotta love those optical/digital outs...

The goal is (not including one portable andf that bathroom unit) to get it down to no more than 6 in use- maximum3 each single tray and changer, with one of each in each system- then two in storage.

Of course, I'll try to resist any further CD player purchases, but heavens help me if I come across any old Denon, NAD, Marantz, Philips, Magnavox or Adcom units for cheap...

Zero.
I first acquired a CD playing tool when I bought a DVD player.Hell I even went and bought some CDs(dunno why,I never listen to 'em).
I guess my eternal punishment was to miss out on "perfect sound forever".
Strange how I don't feel like I'm missing-out.

I was looking for a Rega Planet or Apollo last year to upgrade the CD playback part of my system when I stumbled across the Maverick. After doing some research, I took a chance on it and I've not been disappointed. It sounds great with Redbook CDs, and awesome with SACD. Plus, with Underwood HiFi's mods, I have a readily available upgrade path if I ever decide to improve it.

Hi,

I currently use a JVC XL-Z1050TN for a transport. It's partnered with an Audio Magic Kukama DAC. Digital cable is the Audio Magic Illusions 4D.Beaautiful sounding rig, so I see no reason to have another machine around.

I have 2, a Cambridge Audio Azur 640C, V2. And a old technics I use as a audio source on my bench. I gave away my old Onkyo last week to my oldest daughters boyfriend. He at least is somewhat interested in stereo rigs. When I played Men at work on my stereo, a big smile came across his face. Down with iPods I say!

If you only count stand-alone, audiophile CD players, and exclude portables (like the Sony Discman), boom-boxes, car units, etc., then I have five:

1 CAL Audio Labs Delta/Sigma/XLO combo
1 Magnavox CDB 650
1 Marantz CD-63
1 Arcam CD73
1 Arcam Delta 270

If you count all the other non-audiophile types, the Lord only knows....
