I'm in but only if I get what I want. A big hint? It's initials are......
JENNY McCARTHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I already gave away all my good stuff (shrunken heads and all), so don't expect much in the way of "cool" gifts.

When can we expect the draw?
I want to make sure I have time research my recipient's posts, and beat the holiday shipping rush!
Cheers,

The draw is done! :)
Now I'm going to be emailing everyone with the name of the person they get to shop for. $30 is the limit (excluding shipping). There are a lot of you who did not send me your addresses, so please do so ASAP. If you do not have the address of your recipient by Wednesday please let me know. Now remember the secret part about this is what makes it fun, so don't tell the person that you have for the gift who you are!
If at all possible, we should be shipping gifts no later than Friday December 12th to arrive in time for the holidays.
I'll be PMing you all with the person to buy for, that will also be a different person than will be buying for you! :)

If you're still one short, count me in (geez I am slow on the uptake). If not, that's OK.
Are there any rules? We do Yankee Swaps at the New England tube hi-fi get-togethers, but that's a little different (i.e., one wants a mix of trash and treasures, to make it interesting).
I promise I won't foist one of my primo European record changers on any AK member :-) (anyone who's seen any of my "collection will know that they aren't exactly desireable...)
Kamakiri
11-30-2003, 08:14 AM
Done! Everyone will be getting PMs shortly with the name of the person you're buying for, addresses to follow. If I forget to send you an address in a few days please email me.

BTW the gift does NOT have to be audio related. Anything goes really but no "gag" gifts.
Disclaimer: Whoever gets Thor ANYTHING goes. If you feel the urge to send him a black mamba ( or any other phallic device) feel free to do so. :p:

Okay, so do we reveal ourselves to our recipients or do we truly keep ourselves Secret Santas?
Haoleb
12-02-2003, 08:26 AM
no your supposed to keep it a secret until they open the stuff. of course, it would be a bit obvios who it is by looking at the return adress. even if the name says joe schmo but its supposed to be secret.
Haoleb
12-02-2003, 08:42 AM
you guys could also all go into the chatroom and open them together... :dunno: . wouldnt be that great when thor find out he got a box of coals but it would be funny for everyone else.
Just something i saw somewhere else online..

what if its fresh maine lobster?
Oughta be mighty ripe by christmas :p:
I went to send my gift and I won't be sending Lobster after all, to send two 2lb lobsters was $90  I was freaking amazed, I never imagined it would be so much, I guess they have to be shipped overnight air so that is why they cost so much, minimum shipping charge was $40 at the other lobster place in town so just the shipping alone is over the price limit, now I gotta scramble and find something good to ship Monday :( That's what I get for being a dumbass and not doing my homework.

From the 70's through the 90's, we had good reason to do "touch and goes" up at both Pease AFB (Portsmouth, N.H.), and Bangor Int'l. Airport. A touch and go is a practice landing. Land the airplane, and while still hurtling down the runway, push the throttles back up and take-off again. Before the terrorist thing, prior to departing McGuire AFB, we would call ahead to a seafood company either at Pease or Bangor. They would deliver "lobsters to go" right to base ops at either Pease or Bangor. The base ops guys would throw them in the supervisor of flying truck, and wait for us at the end of the runway. After we completed enough touch and goes to justify the mission, we would do a "Full Stop Taxi Back" to the end of the runway and the waiting lobster delivery individuals. Pop open the crew entry chute and with engines still running, load the lobsters and head back to McGuire. Your tax dollars at work.

I almost forgot the time in the 90's that I was on a week-long mission, flying out of Key West Naval Air Station. One day, we were airborne, and had about an hour wait between receiver aircraft getting gas off us. We were also getting hungry. There was also a Burger King right on base at Key West NAS, not far from our week-long parking spot. We landed the aircraft, and with the engines running, the navigator and myself got off the airplane, ran down to BK, grabbed everybody lunch, and climbed back on the airplane, taxied back out and took off again for the next refueling. You HAD to see the faces on some of the Navy enlisted guys who were sitting around the hangars eating their own lunch in the sunshine. I'm not sure some of them realized we were flying out of their station for a week. They assumed we "dropped in" just to get some cheeseburgers. THAT my friends is the difference between flying in the Air Guard, and in the active duty Air Force.

I used to live closer to the airport and they used to do those touch and goes all the time, them planes is LOUD

It must be the experience of a lifetime to pilot one of those.
Toasted Almond
12-13-2003, 04:53 PM
I've driven them plenty of times sir, including takeoff and landing. But I get paid to work at the other end of the airplane. I'm a boom operator not a pilot. Takeoffs are a piece of cake. Hold the nose down on the runway, get them going fast enough, and airplanes lift themselves off the earth. LANDING separates the men from the boys. Landing in a cross-wind separates the men from the REAL men.

Well I discovered another truly Maine item to send for a present I hope the person I got has no objection to alcoholic beverages and I hope it arrives in time. Next year we will have to raise the limit cuz I couldn't find anything meaningful to send that would stay within' the limit so I went over a little ;)
Plus I probably got the hardest guy out of everyone, what do you get someone who probably has everything?
gonefishin
12-13-2003, 05:18 PM
TA...I'm sure your filled with more experiences than you would care to talk about, but not enough to keep us from wanting to hear more.
Thor...have you got Wards? :stupid:
I agree...next year we may have to raise it just a little bit.
either way...I'm excited to see how X likes their gift! I hope they don't already have them :(
Did you receive it yet?

More everything Thor! THAT'S what you get him.
Gonefishin',
I'll drop a tale every once in awhile. Some folks probably aren't into it. I'm glad you are.
