HI,Have been reading this forum for months. It has been fun buying old recievers and hearing the wounderful sound that that they produce.I just bought a 2215b and cleaned it up added new lamps and it sounds really good.I am having trouble with the left channel, the slide balance control must have a short,I used contact cleaner an it didnt help. Can this switch be replaced and if so where can i get one.Or,can I bypass it an just have a balaned setting for right and left .Also when i took off the radio dial to change the bulbs the material on the back was ruined so i used a piece of grip tape from my golf club repairs to cover it any better choices?

Try a little Caig De-Oxit in that balance slider.

Check the wires on the balance control. May be a bad contact there.

I would like to know if the balance change when you change the volume :scratch2:

You do not remove the dial to change lamps. Two screws on the lamp holder.

Do you get equal sound from right and left channel ever?

A better description would help us help you.

I took apart the unit to clean it , i went thru the radio dial cover to chage the bulbs th material on the back of the face plate came off so i used grip tape ,the front lighting looks fine .the channel when it is not working can be faintly heard when i crank the volume up and the switch is pushed to left channel only.Last time it went out was when i hit the loudness button.I tried deoxit,it didn't help.Tonight it is working but if you push the slide switch up or down it goes out.Any help would be apreciated .

One more note the volume is the same on both sides when the slider is working. Also i am not an electronics guy so if possible keep it simple

You probably have physical deterioration inside the slide pot. Likely the bonding of the slider element to the moveable knob assembly has come apart, much like the level controls on Tandberg reel-to-reels.

Mouser has an excellent selection of slide pots. If you have mechanical saavy, you may be able to adapt one of their devices.

Thank you for the proper name of the component i think i found something that will work. Can this be bypassed and just have even left and right balance?

Yes, if you know -- or can determine via measurement -- the resistances inside the balance control at center position -- you can construct a simple resistor network to substitute for the balance control.

This will then "hardwire" the balance section for equal signal to L and R channels.
