Is there any difference in the quality of sound transmission??? Been told by one audio shop owner that flat cable is inferior and it's only advantage is for carpet/ in wall installation. I have placed new clarity caps and inductor coils on my sansui spx9000 and would now like to move up from Monster cable. These speakers tend to be strong in the mids and weak in lows with a bright sound. Hoping there may be some cable that may mellow the sound and offer a warmer feel. Please offer advice...:scratch2:

Before you spend the bucks on Monster try Bluejeans belden based
12 ga speaker wire....belden mfg for recording studios and installation
applications where signal degradation is not acceptable. Belden does
not depend on glitzy marketing..

With me after running into ic problems switched entirely over to
Bluejeans ic and speaker wire....and for once the grain free clarity
micro-macro musical dynamics, bass definition soundstaging were there
like never before !

Belden wire is very inexpensive compared to Monster and cost may be
quite a bit less.

here is a link give a look and also the white papers.

You can try Alpha-core's MI2 copper cable. Its not hyper expensive, made of unabtanium, fancy jackets etc. Its a decent flat cable, with lots of copper. It tend to be warm and smooth with reasonable bass. Buy directly from them and you get a 30 day trial period.
Just a thought

PS. I'm not sure about the whole flat Vs. Round thing. There are only a few flat cables that I know of, Alpha-core and Nordost. They are totally different sounding.

I'll second the Belden-based. They seem to make some very good product.
You may want to try the Rack Shack 16 ga braided flat copper. It tends to roll the highs off.

if you're looking to tame sansui's high's and increase bass response, speaker cable may not be the first place you want to look at. switching preamp/receiver will give you much much more change in speaker response. it depends on your speakers' efficiency and power handling, but for an example, vintage pioneer and concept receiver will give you more than distinctive high, mid, and bass difference between them when connected to same sansui speakers. i really don't think a cable can make ENOUGH difference to soften highs or give you more bass.

i've also experienced that speakers with new caps usually have rough highs and undefined bass until they're broken in.

if you just want to upgrade your cables, like the other ak'ers have already mentioned, i think the belden or canare cables are huge bargains. i've tried audioquest, monster, kimber, and etc, and there are noticeable differences for sure, but spending any more than $100 on a pair of speaker wires is meaningless IMO, because you can make more positive changes by spending that money on amp, preamp, or sources.
