Moved on to Muddy's Folk singer which is sounding absolutely Killer ! :) jguzman21 11-10-2003, 01:38 PM Must be a day for killer music... I have some Eva Cassidy "Live at Blues Alley" goin' tentoze 11-10-2003, 02:10 PM A new score from the week-end- Alasdair Roberts, Farewell Sorrow- kind of a Scottish version of Will Oldham. Mostly acoustic, vaguely Scottish traditional sounding (but no bagpipes). Great cd. Dave918 11-10-2003, 04:03 PM John Lee Hooker "Boogie Chillen" SACD Hybrid :thmbsp: Dave918 11-24-2003, 07:42 AM Playing Scott Carter "East End Journal" again. Great acoustic folk material, love it! -Dave JDaniel 11-24-2003, 01:13 PM It's a little Grateful Dead compilation this morning. "Althea" is the current tune. On deck: Allman Bros. "The Road Goes On Forever" remaster. JDaniel ps - hey Dave - there's a bonus or two in the package I mailed ya last week. Happy Thanksgiving. Dave918 11-24-2003, 02:39 PM Right now I'm listening to a great compilation titled "Harpin' Vol. 1" that was but together by a fellow AKer. Thanks JDaniel! -Dave Jim Eck 11-24-2003, 07:31 PM Spent the evening with Siegel Schwall Shake, and some early Vangard years on vinyl, finished dinner with some Bread, mellow after some active Blues. Jim Dave918 12-22-2003, 07:17 AM Starting out this morning with a little Van Morrison "What's Wrong With This Picture?". One of the best releases of 2003 IMO. -Dave Dave918 12-22-2003, 09:13 AM Following up with Warren Zevon "The Wind", another of my top picks for 2003, before heading out for the day. -Dave opt80 12-22-2003, 09:49 AM I have today off too, have to work Tuesday but then I am off until next Monday. Start the day with John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers...Blues Forever yes!:guitar: :yippy: Alan boostcrazy 12-22-2003, 10:30 AM bark at the moon the ultimate sin diary of a madman does anybody besides me listen to any rock and roll music? JDaniel 12-22-2003, 11:43 AM Trying to get some work done (yeah right), listening to one of my top five all time albums - The Allman Bros. - The Road Goes On Forever Remaster.. The few of us here at work today all brought food - Christmas cookies, sweets, pumpkin bread, a crock-pot full of Cheese/Rotel/Hamburger dip with chips. I'm gaining weight with each passing hour. JDaniel On deck: A Best of Ryko records compilation Dave918 12-22-2003, 01:44 PM Back home early and its Alison Krauss + Union Station "New Favorite" spinning away. -Dave DingusBoy 12-22-2003, 10:12 PM Dave, Yep I do rock & roll but today seems to be another story: Van Morrison: Too Long in Exile Lyle Lovette: My Baby Don't Tolerate Miles Davis: Best of CD on blue note playing some CD's on the Lector today! a little burn in is good. JDaniel 12-29-2003, 08:38 AM Starting out the day with a little Allman Brothers Band - Brothers And Sisters from 1973. Not a bad way to start the day - not bad at all. JDaniel Dave918 12-29-2003, 09:25 AM Lucinda Williams – “World Without Tears” playing this morning. I just can't get enough of this CD lately :D -Dave JDaniel 12-29-2003, 09:53 AM Dave - Sounds like you like the newest Lucinda Williams. I just love her voice. Based on your comments, I may have to pick it up. For some reason, I hesitated in buying this cd, and Annie Lennox - Bare. I now regret not buying both. I guess these will go on my "buy" list, along with the new Lyle Lovett, and the new Sarah MacLachlan. JDaniel reyneman 01-05-2004, 02:30 PM Yes! Another source hooked up here now- was getting a bit tired of constant XM Radio. Right now- Joe Cocker 'Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood', from the ALBUM 'With a Little Help From My Friends'. Yes, vinyl is once again spinning at the Reyneman's place! Dave918 01-05-2004, 05:19 PM Haven't listened to a single tune today, not even the radio. Sad, sad :sigh: I gotta re-adjust my priorities :p: -Dave JDaniel 01-05-2004, 05:25 PM Getting my 80s fix with one of my top five artists from that decade - Billy Idol - Rebel Yell. I thoroughly enjoyed that guy's music, along with Stevie Stevens guitar work. For the drive home, I've selected a little Badfinger. JDaniel I humbly accept my punishment and promise to never let it happen again. I'll even through in some "Kickin' It At The Barn" just to make sure I'm good and punished :D -Dave JDaniel 01-12-2004, 11:17 AM Starting out with Jerry Garcia & David Grisman Not For Kids Only. "What Will You Wear Jenny Jenkins" is the 1st tune. Cool song - good pickin', funny lyrics. If you've heard it, you know what I mean. JDaniel Dave918 01-12-2004, 03:09 PM I just love it when goodies show up in the mail! Allman Brothers Band Road Goes On Forever  :guitar: -Dave JDaniel 01-12-2004, 03:46 PM Yep - The Road Goes On Forever is an all-time fav. of mine. The Remaster became a 2-disc set, with an additional 13 songs. Now that's a remaster that is worth buying over the original. I've heard too many remasters that weren't worth the investment. How some "completists" who have to have every release keep up with things is beyond me. It would drive me crazy. Jethro Tull is a good example - tons of remasters, UK releases, etc. Right now I'm spinning a little compilation I rec'd in the mail today from a friend in Rolling Rock Beer country. It has a cool selection of tunes, taken from many sources (CD, SACD, DTS-DVD, LP, Cassette, and even one MP3 tune). Lineup looks like this: Blonde Redhead The Wrens Spoon The Unicorns Built To Spill (I love this band - have for a while now) The Shins Death Cab for Cutie Peter Gabriel Enon Super Furry Animals Grandaddy Jucifer McLusky Dave Navarro Weezer Cheap Trick Trail of the Dead The Breeders The Decemberists Prince JDaniel Haoleb 01-12-2004, 05:56 PM i never read one of these threads, you guys listen to ALOT of music. i feel bad now that i dont. im almost always playing music on the computer when im here but it seems like i dont listen to alot of music on my system. I guess because its in my room. seperate from the house and theres just not much to do in there except lie around... listening to music. Im gonna go play some selections from "the past and the present" that i havent heard in a while. Keep them tunes a' spinnin! i need to get on it! :) JDaniel 01-19-2004, 04:14 PM Mellowing out at work with My Morning Jacket It Still Moves. After that, I'm headed home and plan on a serious, sit down in the easy chair, critical listen on the main rig to a fantastic album The Peter Malick Group featuring Norah Jones New York City. This album would be a good choice for the next "Group Review". JDaniel Dave918 01-19-2004, 04:37 PM Now playing - Nitty Gritty Dirt Band "Uncle Charlie and His Dog Teddy". A trully wonderful album that not only shows off the talents of the band members but provides a bit of musical history as well. Next I'm going to give Nickel Creek "This Side" a try. I'm still on the fence about this group. Not sure why as they are certainly a talented trio, just seems to be something missing. -Dave CarlV 01-19-2004, 06:12 PM I'm sitting here playing with my new ebay toy listening to SRC's Milestones(thanks to mOOn). Carl atuque 01-19-2004, 11:31 PM On the go this evening: Bruce / Tunnel of Love / LP Paul Weller / Stanley Road / CD Till the Night is Gone: A Tribute to Doc Pomus / Various / CD atuque Dave918 01-26-2004, 09:14 AM A little Badfinger best of at home and on the drive into work this morning. Oldies but goodies  -Dave JDaniel 01-26-2004, 10:07 AM For me it is Lucinda Williams World Without Tears. I'm not sure where some of the cold reviews came from on this album. Even a couple of friends of mine, whose tastes in music are similar to mine, didn't care for this album - one even gave his copy away he said it was so bad. I think this is a very solid album - sultry, with a lot of soul and emotion. Whatever anyone else thinks, I like this album. I think I'll spin Rickie Lee Jones self-titled album next. I think that was from 1976 maybe. Still sounds good today. JD Dave918 01-26-2004, 12:12 PM I don't get the negative press and reviews on "World Without Tears" either Jeff. I thought it was great the first time I listened to it. Another good reason to ignore the critics and listen for yourself. -Dave bully 01-26-2004, 12:36 PM Oldies? Been listening to the Association's greatest hits-- Windy playing right now with the snow blowing from north to south at about 30 mph. JDaniel 01-26-2004, 12:50 PM Just listened again to the 2002 release by Marianne Faithfull Kissin' Time. This just isn't my thing. Anybody want this "library" version? JD JDaniel 02-02-2004, 11:29 AM Listening to the sweetness of a flugelhorn on Chuck Mangione's Feels So Good. I saw Chuck perform in a 400 seat high school auditorium back in 1985. I was in row 7. He came out in the audience and stood at row 7 and played a solo on his flugelhorn. I've been hooked ever since. JD DingusBoy 02-02-2004, 11:46 AM got an album side in before work: Tom Petty Echoes, the side with "swinging" and the title track. It's weird listening to vinyl that is split in four sides for what was a single CD, but I like it. Don't know if it was digitally mastered but it's a good sounding album. tentoze 02-02-2004, 11:54 AM AM drive-time: Handsome Family, Singing Bones. Will be playing a couple more Dave sent me. Sheesh. I was whipped opening that lil' box and seeing those CD-R's! Off topic, but I've got to figure out how to work the rip and burn and such. CarlV 02-02-2004, 06:49 PM I was playing Humble Pie at the Whiskey A Go Go '69. Now Thank Christ For The Bomb from The Groundhogs. T S McPhee is an amazing guitarist. Carl JDaniel 02-09-2004, 11:43 AM Working through Carlos Guitarlos Straight From The Heart from my OKLA amigo;) . Thanks. Very diverse, raw music on here. I like it alot. The cd doesn't flow well (the styles change too much), but one their own the individual songs are great. What are the rest of you listening to this morning? And if you aren't listening, then duh, that's why you're having a crappy Monday morning. JD tentoze 02-09-2004, 11:58 AM Drive time music: Handsome Family, Singing Bones- my current favorite. CarlV 02-09-2004, 05:27 PM I'm taking a break enjoying some Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys. My dad sure had a lot of these records, books too! Me now though. Carl JDaniel 02-09-2004, 07:42 PM I'm mellowing out a little after work while the crew does homework. Right now it is Dave Brubeck Quiet As The Moon. On Deck is more Dave Brubeck Jazz At Oberlin. Once homework is done, I promised the boys I'd give them a chance to beat me in a few games of pool. I already beat them in basketball in three games of H-O-R-S-E after school. They get a little better all the time. Dear ole dad won't be winning too much longer. They already beat me at pool regularly, and I'm not half bad at pool (a direct result of a mis-spent youth hanging out with my older brother). JD (hopin everyone else is mellowing out a little as well, or rockin out, or proggin out, or whatever is your preference). CarlV 02-09-2004, 08:29 PM I'm listening to Albert Collins Truckin'. Thanks Alan :D -Dave Dave918 02-16-2004, 09:13 AM Broke the seal on an oldie but goodie this AM. One of my favorites back in 1976 - 77. You have to wonder what could've been. Tommy Bolin ~ "Private Eyes" JDaniel 02-16-2004, 09:23 AM I drove into work this morning with Frank Zappa Strictly Commercial. That's the good news. The bad news is that now I'll spend the entire day with the song Fine Girl in my head. Fine Girl: Well, yeah, well, Oh yeah, She was a fine girl She could get down wit de get down All de way down She do yer laundry She change a tire Chop a little wood for de fire Poke it around ... if it died down Oh yeah, She was a fine girl She go up in the mornin' She go down in the evenin'... all de way down She do the dishes If you wishes Silverware too Make it look brand new... when she get through Oh yeah, She was a fine girl Outa this world Well, yeah, well, yeah, well, yeah, well, Oh yeah, She was a fine girl She could get down wit de get down All de way down She do your laundry She change a tire Chop a little wood for de fire Poke it around ... if it died rlown Oh yeah She was a fine girl With a lovely smile With a bucket on her head Fulla water from de well She could run a mile Oh yeah She wouldn't spill a drop It'd stay on top Her head was kinda flat But her hair covered that She was a fine girl Didn't need no school She was built like a mule With a thong sandal Well, wasn't no kinda job she could not handle She could get down ... wit de get down All de way down We need some more like dat, in dis kinda town We need some more like dat, in dis kinda town JD Dave918 02-16-2004, 09:32 AM Hate it when that happens :p: bully 02-16-2004, 10:09 AM Listening to Bob and Tom on the radio. Funny show. Contemplating what to cue up. Will run the 'fifth element' stereo for a while. That's the Nikko NR-1015, 85 wpc, driving the Marantz DS900 and Advent Loudspeaker. Nice, natural sounding. Happy President's Day to all who get the holiday off. JDaniel 02-16-2004, 10:10 AM Picked up two new albums, and giving one a listen now: Cold Mountain Soundtrack. So far so good. JD Dave918 02-16-2004, 10:25 AM Just added the Cold Mountain soundtrack to my buy list the other day Jeff. I'm now listening to one I had broke the seal on a couple days ago, but just now giving a full playback. Scott Moody ~ "Four Miles To Rockingham". Very impressed so far, you can clearly hear James Taylor and Lyle Lovett influences. Interesting note about the CD title and front cover photo - The title of the CD comes from the stories Scott heard as a child about his great Aunt Lillian. Her picture is the front cover. Born in Rockingham N.C. around the turn of the century. She was a wild woman during the roaring twenties. Highly educated and a great musician she became addicted to morphine somewhere along the way. On Saturday nights she used to put on her Sunday dress and walk 4 miles to Rockingham to party all night returning home by the same route before dawn. bully 02-16-2004, 10:50 AM Gin Blossoms, New miserable experience. Playing on my most vintage vintage stereo-- the Nikko NR-1015, an OLD Technics ceedee player, and the Marantz DS900 & Advent Loudspeaker. OK, now I'm listening to Nickelback, The Long road. Dave918 02-16-2004, 11:46 AM Well I knew I would get off track sometime today and start listening to some stuff I've had for awhile. :p: NP: Creedence Clearwater Revisited ~ "Recollection" Yeah I know some folks refuse to listen to this CD or go to the concerts because John didn't want to be involved and tried to put a stop to it. Doesn’t matter to me because I don't consider this to be a CCR reunion. I do consider it to be a fantastic performance. Stu Cook and Doug “Cosmo” Clifford are in true form, Elliot Easton is of course excellent on guitar, as you would expect, and John Tristao is outstanding on vocals. It’s very obvious that the group goes to great length to passionately and faithfully deliver the sound and spirit of the music and what it was about. IMO Creedence Clearwater Revisited deserves a lot of credit for keeping the music alive. A while back I e-mailed the group to ask about the possibility of a concert DVD. Doug Clifford responded that one was in the works and would hopefully be out by summer. I don't buy many concert DVDs, but I'll grab this one. -Dave bully 02-16-2004, 12:35 PM Haven't heard the tribute band, but have always enjoyed CCR. I'm liking Irish bands, too, and am NP The Cranberries No need to argue. Have switched over to the Yamaha system with the Aiwa Dolby S deck and am recording this ceedee. My 94 SHO only has a cassette player. CarlV 02-16-2004, 07:48 PM I just opened and put on Luther Allison's Bad News Is Coming. Luther is another one those those unsung bluesmen who folks don't appreciate until it's too late. I believe he passed a few years back from cancer. My avatar is a pic I shot of him at Summerfest in Milwaukee prolly around mid-late 70s; I think Willie Dixon played that night too, I got some of him also. Thanks and Good Luck tomorrow! Carl JDaniel 02-23-2004, 09:49 AM I had a painful drive in this morning, thanks to Jason Mraz Waiting For My Rocket To Come. I heard one song, Curbside Prophet, from this album on an acoustical disc called "Live in the X-Lounge VI", and really liked it. So I got the album last week. 12 songs, and not one I could even begin to enjoy. Not even "Curbside Prophet". The album version of this song is a jangly banjo kinda rap diddy. Horrible. Painful. Might make my top-5 worst albums I own. Instead of a desert island disc, this should be a solitary confinement disc used in prisons. "Warden, I swear, I'm reformed. Please, I'll do anything, just no more Mraz." I'm moving on to something better, and I've never even heard some of these discs before. How do I know they are better? They have to be compared to Mraz. I just rec'd this morning the remaining "Live in the X-Lounge" series of discs. Can't wait to spin them. JD bully 02-23-2004, 10:53 AM Something titled "Tune-up 27" that I picked up at a thrift. SOme really good tunes throughout. Have tracked down the playlist online, and even some 'real' names playing on it. But, don't ask right now, I am sitting comfortably with my second cuppa joe. Here it is: You Don't Move Me (Keith Richards) / Christmas Must Be Tonight (Robbie Robertson) / Solidarity (Rhuthm Corps) / Acting This Way (Robert Cray Band) / Feel The Shake (Jetboy) / Motor (Circus Of Power) / Girls Night Out (Dirty Blonde) / Grain Of Sand (The Saints) / Daddy Have You Ever Been Arrested? She also plays flute and alto flute. Backed by Alex Blake, Tommy Campbell, Norman Hedman, & featuring George Cables, Bobby Watson and Stanton Davis. This is a release by Arabesque Records, a small label. The recording is very well done. JDaniel 02-23-2004, 02:04 PM Just finished a 1st listen to Live In The X-Lounge II. These discs are a series produced annually by our local FM alternative station. They are live acoustic recordings, in an MTV Unplugged style. This disc is very very good. My only complaint is that many of these songs were radio hits. I'd have preferred deeper cuts. Tracklist: 1. Out of Habit -- BR5-49 2. Meet Virginia -- Train 3. I haven't listened to this stuff in years. Takes me back to college (at least what I can remember). Any other P-furs fans? JD JDaniel 03-22-2004, 10:54 AM Drove in with Los Lonely Boys this a.m. I don't think I'll ever tire of this album. I just found out they will be here in town in May as a headliner as part of a 3-day outdoor music festival we have each year called City Stages. They basically close off 6 blocks of downtown and put up about a dozen stages. From noon till midnight each day - a variety of artists. I'm definitely doing to catch LLB. Now I'm listening to my new Gotta Lovett comp. A little Lyle Lovett music is always a good thing. And I'm really pumped - I just picked up another Vintage Marantz, Model 2220, in excellent condition for $25. I can't wait to get this home and check it out. I'm gradually building a classic stereo system for each of my kids, to give to them one day when they are wise enough to appreciate it. My plans are to do the same for each with a classic car. I'm meeting a guy tomorrow to look at a 1970 Chevelle. What ya listening to? JD (it's spring break week here - one more day of work then it's vacation time for a few days - off to the mountains for some hiking, fishing, and relaxation.) I'm just laughing out loud at some Lyle Lovett lyrics from the song Skinny Legs: "And see that boy with that guitar He's got a little round tush like I always wanted A girlfriend in his car 'cause he's got A little round...like I always wanted Sister look at me again You'd love me if I had a pooper like him You'd love me if that were my rear end" JD JDaniel 03-22-2004, 02:36 PM I just listened to Charlie Daniels Redneck Fiddlin' Man, a 2002 release. Based on Dave/Alan's new rating scale, I'd only give it :thmbsp: Yep - only 1 out of 5. There's a couple of catchy tunes, but give me the old CDB anytime. Moving on to The Joe Walsh Anthology - Look What I Did. JD CarlV 03-22-2004, 08:41 PM I've been listening to Bill Evan's Waltz For Debbie, Stan Getz' More West Coast Jazz(love Tangerine), now Therion's Crowning of Atlantis. Ordered the Hi-Fi News test record ron-c recommended, finally, and a few Original Jazz Classics LP's. Then I realized I better make a list of the shows I will go to in the next month. Hot Club SF, Tesla, Chris Hillman, Gov't Mule, Charlie Musselwhite, Kraftwerk, and finally Derek Trucks on 5/01. It's been an excellent year for live music so far. :) Carl VinylHanger 03-22-2004, 09:49 PM I would luv to see Kraftwerk, very cool stuff. Tonight I have a few minutes of the house to my self, have the Highwaymen spinnin' on the Marantz. I was worried because it is one of those thin as a paperplate albums, but sounds very, very good. Before that I started to listen to my new minty Wings- Venus and Mars album, but I think it will take some serious listening to get into it, so it will wait till later. CarlV 03-22-2004, 10:15 PM I got front row balcony for Kraftwerk at the Warfield theater. :D Carl Forgot, playing Rory Gallagher's BBC Sessions disk set JDaniel 03-29-2004, 08:54 AM Hey gang - I'm back from vacation:mad: . Had a great time in the mountains fishing, hiking, visiting several waterfalls, wading through the falls with the kids, and just relaxing. I started out with Ben Harper Diamonds on the Inside. I'm getting ready to evaluate an MP3 disc of comps that a friend in N.C. sent me. It has 74 songs from various comps we've made through the years. He wanted to evaluate the quality of converting them to MP3s. I have little/no experience with MP3s, so I'm curious. JD tentoze 03-29-2004, 11:53 AM Morning drive-time: Bonnie "Prince" Billy sings Greatest Palace Songs. Superb. Since I am not familiar with any of Oldham's outings as Palace or Palace Music, these tunes are all new to me. This is a welcome change of pace from the Bonnie "Prince" Billy persona of quiet, gloomy vocals over acoustic spare guitar. A full Nashville back-up band kicks up the twang nicely, and the recording quality is top notch. Alan- BUY THIS ONE :D JDaniel 03-29-2004, 12:13 PM A couple of MP3 observations from this disc. First, via headphones, the sound quality is fine. I'm curious as to how it will sound at home on the main system. 2nd, the annoying part is that, for whatever reason, my pc cd drive spins at an annoyingly fast rate, causing a lot of noise. I don't notice this with normal cds. It sounds like a data cd when you are trying to install software or something. Are all MP3 discs like this? Just curious. JD Moving on to the Handsome Family Singing Bones. CarlV 03-29-2004, 12:37 PM I started off with Therion's Secret Of The Ruins and am listening to Tristania's Midwintertears/Angina album. :) Carl opt80 03-29-2004, 06:04 PM 'Toze, Will do Thanks Alan Dave918 03-29-2004, 08:02 PM Enjoying Return Of The Grievous Angel: Tribute To Gram Parsons this evening courtesy of DAGLJAM6.
