Dizzy Gillespie/Charlie Parker - Town Hall, NYC, June 22, 1945.

What's funny is that Symphony Sid, in his opening statement, announces this as a "modern" concert. I guess in 1945 this was pretty avant-garde as they began to move away from big band/swing. This is the birth of be-bop.

And Charlie arrives late, as usual.

I think Afterswish is a compilation of the songs that OT released on Cassette only when they were starting out. Those are now available on CD. The quality isn't as good since OT was doing it all themselves back in them days. I am still getting those on CD however.

You would like Erpland, Jurassic Shift, Pungent Effulgent, Strangeitude, Arborescence for sure. I have all these on CDs..Dovetail and Dovetail/I.R.S.

They have since been reissued I believe on another label.

The Afterswish comp that I have was released by Dovetail in 1991. I'm not even sure if it's still in print. And it may have been reissued recently. But yeah, there was time when I was really into the Ozrics and along the way I purchased Jurassic Shift, Strangeitude, Aborescence, Curious Corn, Waterfall Cities, The Hidden Step and Spirals In Hyperspace but prefer the older material.

I need to get Erpland and Pungent Efflugent. Thanks.

"Mah Na Mah Na"- Piero Umiliani, 1968. Was originally used in a sex film about Sweden. Later, it was used as a theme in Benny Hill & on The Muppets. Hank Mobley - The Turnaround

Recorded in two sessions, March 7, 1963 and February 5, 1965.

March 7, 1963 session:

Donald Byrd, trumpet; Hank Mobley, tenor sax; Herbie Hancock, piano; Butch Warren, bass; Philly Joe Jones, drums.

February 5, 1965 session:

Freddie Hubbard, trumpet; Hank Mobley, tenor sax; Barry Harris, piano; Paul Chambers, bass; Billy Higgins, drums.

You may ask yourself, "Why two years between sessions?" Answer: Tracks 2 and 3, recorded March 7, 1963 were leftovers from the same session that produced the 'No Room For Squares' album. Hank left Blue Note briefly and personal drug problems removed him from the jazz scene for all of 1964. The Turnaround is a statement album for Hank signifying his "turnaround" or return to both Jazz and Blue Note.

Sonny Rollins, tenor sax; Ray Bryant, piano; George Morrow, bass; Max Roach, drums.

Recorded December 2, 1955.

Sonny Rollins had just joined the Clifford Brown-Max Roach Quintet. Notice the inclusion of it's rhythm section (except for the piano) on this album. They would record At Basin Street in January and February of '56 and another Rollins lead session, Plus 4, in March.

Miles Davis - Seven Steps: The Complete Columbia Recordings of Miles Davis 1963-1964

Currently playing disc 2 and at the beginning of the Antibes Jazz Festival, Juan-les-Pins, France, July 27, 1963. This is the complete show including introductions. Originally released in edited form as Miles Davis In Europe (Columbia CL 2183/CS 8963). And I think Sony has further reissued this again as part of it's Columbia Legacy series still in original, edited form though.

Cheers

Been buying and selling TEAC reel to reels. One of the EBay sellers had some tape he threw in. This one has been laying around for 4 years. Recorded at 3 3/4 ips I usually just record over them and thats that. Threw it on one of Rolfs Teac a big 6010 he sent me. As most of you know I moved in June to a house with a shop area. :D :D Had a little time off and set the 6010 up in the shop with my 1250 (shown in my avatar) Threw "Alice" on and it sounds good for 3 3/4 ips. Amazing how good it sounds. Eric :music: Never paid much attention to Alice Cooper either..Good stuff!!! ET

This may be of interest to some....

Miles Davis, trumpet; Sam Rivers, tenor sax; Herbie Hancock, piano; Ron Carter, bass; Tony Williams, drums. In the previous live sessions played today replace George Coleman on tenor sax. You can see Miles was getting closer to finalizing that second great quintet. The rhythm section was already in place. Just need fine tune that tenor sax position. Hmmm, I wonder who it could be.....

off my MD actually. I picked up 80 disks free off c'list yesterday so I am playing with a few. MD player direct to MC240 amp through my cornerhorns. Sick, huh? This format's codec beats mp3 so bad and this most revealing connection is proving it as I am a/b'ing as well. The MD's were full of techno/disco/trance type shit so they need recording over badly.

Playing disc 7 (final disc) which contains the September 25, 1964 Berlin Philharmonie, Berlin, Germany performance.

Originally released as Miles In Berlin (CBS/Sony Germany)

Miles finally pulls in his second great quintet with this session by adding Wayne Shorter on tenor sax. An early live performance of Miles Davis' second great quintet that hints at the great things to come over the next 3 years.

Cheers
