I picked this up during lunch today and listened to tracks 1&7 on my way back to work. Boy I am impressed once more with Ms Barber. She has one of the tightest jazz/blues band around and this live album displays all of their skills.

I cannot tell you how much I was wowed by the nine minute version of "Black Magic Woman". The entire musical presentation was alive and vibrant. This is a keeper in my book.

Dizzy Gillespie and Stan Getz - Diz and Getz

December 9, 1953 session:
Dizzy Gillespie, trumpet; Stan Getz, tenor sax; Herb Ellis, guitar; Oscar Peterson, piano; Ray Brown, bass; Max Roach, drums.

May 25, 1954 session:
Dizzy Gillespie, trumpet; Stan Getz & Hank Mobley, tenor sax; Wade Legge, piano; Lou Hackney, bass; Charlie Persip, drums.

A Norman Granz production. He liked doing this sort of thing, that is, putting together great jazz players and letting the sparks fly. This one is no exception. This album combines the two separate releases titled: The Dizzy Gillespie Stan Getz Sextet and More Of The Dizzy Gillespie Stan Getz Sextet

Wrapping has gotten too technical. With a 2 and an 8-yr old, there has to be Santa paper and Mommy and Daddy paper.

Glad you're enjoying it. I can't find any of my old Christmas comps. I'm gonna have to get with someone locally here and dupe them all again. Pretty bad when I can't keep up with my own comps.

I just finished Randy Newman - Trouble in Paradise. Gotta love R.N.

And I may just have found a new "show off the system" reference album:

Steeleye Span - All Around My Hat on MOFI vinyl. This makes the system (Sansui 9090db, Music Hall TT, BIC speakers) sound unbelievable. I usually use Steely Dan - Aja or Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms as reference albums. But this one may replace them both.
