This CD sounds incredibly good. I picked it up last week at FYE, who is closing at the mall and had 10% or more off everything in the store, while the wife did some shopping.

Had always been exposed to Townes and seen him at least once years back. Lately began to realize I needed to pick up some of his music. I had already ordered his self-titled CD when I picked this one up. Extremely happy with both CDs.

I was pretty well-acquainted with Townes' wife before she met him. My ex used to babysit their kids on occasion. I remember talking to the ex after he died. Really sad that he just wouldn't give up the things that were killing him. I'm not sure what I've picked up lately that just seems to mesmerize me the way his music does.

I have the Infinita Plango Vulnera, Altum, SI.VM E.T A.V.VM (EP), and Sufferion albums. all excellent. :) Sufferion has spoken word in between each track which next time I play it I will make a disc without it. It just doesn't fit IMO but the rest is really great. They were kind enough to make those parts cuts so it will be easy enough.
They are supposed to have a new album out soon. Of course it could be a while on this side of the Atlantic.

I think those are his two best studio albums. We ran in the same circles back in the early seventies, and I'd be dead too if I hadn't switched circles.

Be sure and pick up "A Far Cry from Dead", Jeanne's posthumous reconstruction of his songs. It's worth owning, and confirms (to me) that he went home.

Alvin Lee & Mylon LeFevre - On The Road To Freedom

Oh my God!!! Somebody else knows about this album!! Not that its the most Earth shattering or mind blowing thing that Alvin Lee ever did. Far from it, but still worth a listen or purchase. Its like a British Blues guitar virtuoso's attempt at Southern Baptist Country Rock Gospel. I guess thats where Mylon LeFevre comes in the picture. Yes, he is/was a member of THE LeFevre family in the gospel world. Mylon was a bit of a black sheep at the time and kind of "freaked" out, but I think he is pretty much dedicated to the work of the Lord anymore. To each his own.:thmbsp:

Still in all a pretty darn cool/laid back album came of it. You can tell which songs are more Alvin Lee dominated, from a sonic standpoint at least. :guitar:

Lots of interesting contributing musicians....

Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi, and Rebop of Traffic :thmbsp:

Ron Wood-Rolling Stones

And of course Alvin Lee himself who I am a very big fan of.

I must tell you,Toze,it is better than her first 2,if that was possible.I picked up the new Ricki Lee Jones but have not cracked it yet.most reviewers say it is weird,so I'll like it.I also didn't know she was once Tom Waits girl friend.

If anybody wants to hear the best cd so far this year pick up Gill Landry ~ The Ballad of Lawless Soirez. If you don't like it Toze and I will buy them back

I forgot to mention that this is an MFSL "UHQR" release, whihc is a bit different than the regular MFSL release. Might sound the same for all I know. Maybe it is bright, hard to say, it has been so long since I listened to the original LP on Arista. I wonder how the MFSL "Gold" CD version sounds?

Allen isn't as well known as his old pals from Lubbock, Texas--Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, and Butch Hancock--but he shares their slightly twisted, strangely inspired approach to country-folk-rock songwriting. On previous recordings, Allen's smart, sardonic lyrics have often been undermined by his dry, cramped voice and flat arrangements, but on this new album he gets help from such longtime friends and admirers as Ely, David Byrne, Lucinda Williams, Will Sexton, and Charlie Sexton. They put the musical flesh on Allen's verbal skeleton and make this idiosyncratic but gifted songwriter a lot more approachable. Allen serves up Jerry Jeff Walker-like barroom anthems about Texas, Talking Heads-like contemplations of modern society and Ely-like story songs about the border. --Geoffrey Himes

Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/Picnic-Robert-Earl-Keen/dp/B000002VQZ/ref=pd_sim_m_2/002-4345963-3884029)
Compared to Willie Nelson or Butch Hancock, Keen fits squarely in the second rank of Texas songwriters, but even a relatively slick work like Picnic is better than the bulk of what's produced these days in Nashville. Nothing here approaches the knockout wit of Keen's "Merry Christmas from the Family," but "Shades of Gray," the story of small-town criminals almost arrested for a robbery they didn't commit, and "Then Came Lo Mein," about a guy uncorking a lifetime of frustration during a cheap Chinese dinner, are both examples of Lone Star storytelling at its best. --Keith Moerer

Distorted electric guitars, blistering vocals, sizzling harmonicas...and acoustic ballads. Such is Cross Canadian Ragweed. Grady Cross, Cody Canada, Randy Ragsdale, and Jeremy Plato are four of the best musicians on the scene today, and have proved it with each consecutive album. They're also unique in the fact that they have gone mainstream without losing their underground edge; the only difference between this record and their first is the bigger budget and better production.
