I'm playing Ella And Louis I bought yesterday. I cleaned this twice but it needs a third time. What a great combo, Ella really has it! Kinda beauty and the beast vocals on this album. ;) Lots of covers of the standards here, Ella's
vocal of Stomping at The Savoy is worth the price paid for this gem.

Drybasement

Beercan - Hot Rats is my favorite Zappa album, period. Son of Mr. Green Genes is a flat out killer instrumental. I also dig Peaches En Regalia and the Capt. Beefheart sung Willie The Pimp. Have you listened to Waka Jawaka and The Grand Wazoo? Those three album make a nice trilogy and all have the same jazzy fusiony theme to them.

Listening to My Dying Bride's The Angel And The Dark River.

Very dark and gothic. I like this.

Carl, you would like Katatonia for sure. And probably Dead Soul Tribe. Did I send you any of that yet? I can't remember.

Journeyman is good. Clapton hasn't really been a blues guy for a long time, and I think a lot of people have kept hoping he would be. He's made a few misssteps when he has tried to be "just blues," but take a lot of his stuff just for what it is and it is really good.

There were so many good trumpeters back in those days. I haven't got The Procrastinator yet, but I'll eventually get that. And if you haven't heard The Sidewinder yet, do so. It's one of Lee's best imo but I have a feeling you already knew that.

I'm only familiar with McCoy Tyner's The Real McCoy, which was his first Blue Note gig in 1967, and the most excellent Illuminations from 2004 on Telarc. Large gap there I know. He did a stint with Coltrane in the 60's didn't he? Anyway, I need to fill in some gaps regarding Tyner's catalog.

As far as Joshua Redman goes, I might have to explore his music. His bio at All Music Guide intrigued me.

Take care

Gearing up for my morning round of bumper cars (aka commute) by listening first in the shower, then in the car, to an old favorite - Uncle Tupelo 89/93 - An Anthology. But that's probably more info than you really wanted.

Later today, I'm going to listen to Red House Painters - Retrospective.

Also gonna make a library run today and see what new discs they may have.

Good stuff there Jeff! Make sure you get some clothes on between the shower and the car... :D

Great White, Psycho City. One I checked out from the library because I don't believe I've heard the group. It's OK. I like it.

Charles Mingus - Oh Yeah

There's something to be said about a jazz album that has track titles such as "Hog Callin' Blues" and "Wham Bam Thank You Ma'am" and "Oh Lord Don't Let Them Drop That Atomic Bomb On Me" and "Eat That Chicken".

Mingus, who is known for his bass playing prowess, relinquishes those duties to Doug Watkins on this album. Mingus does all the piano playing (and vocalizations), and very well I might add.

The Essential Tony Bennett. Considering to what I was listening to earlier, I guess this equals things out. :D

Art Pepper - Intensity

Recorded in 1960. This is the DCC reissue remastered by Steve Hoffman and it sounds mighty fine. The other DCC reissue, Gettin' Together, is also highly recommended. And Dmax, I need to get me a copy of Meets The Rhythm Section. I've been putting that off too long.

Art Pepper is yet another person in the long list of tragic tales regarding heroin addiction. Something that was so prevalent among jazz performers of that time.

Iggy worked out frustrations I was having earlier in the day...Tony has a calming effect on me. ;)

I guess they're both crooners in their own special way then.;)
