Andrew Hill - Point Of Departure

Kenny Dorham, trumpet; Eric Dolphy, alto sax, flute, bass clarinet; Joe Henderson, tenor sax; Andrew Hill, piano; Richard Davis, bass; Tony Williams, drums.

Recorded March 21, 1964.

I don't play this often as the style is somewhat unappealing to me. The music borders on free jazz but manages to stay somewhat civilized. If you like Eric Dolphy's Out To Lunch (another album I don't play very often) then this would appeal to you.

Cheers

Art Farmer, flugelhorn; Benny Golson, tenor sax; Curtis Fuller, trombone; Mickey Tucker, piano; Ray Drummond, bass; Marvin "Smitty" Smith, drums.

Recorded February 21 & 22, 1986.

Now we're getting back to what I like. This is a reunion of the original Jazztet from 1960-62 or at least I think so. Superb music nonetheless.

Nat Adderley - A Little New York Midtown Music

Nat Adderley, cornet; Johnny Griffin, tenor sax; Victor Feldman, electric and acoustic piano; Ron Carter, bass; Roy McCurdy, drums.

Recorded September 18 and 19, 1978.

This is a decent album. In 1978 jazz was still in the grips of fusion and at times this album reminds me of that fact only because of the electric piano. I was heavy into jazz fusion for awhile there. Despite that, it's a good listen. Only cost me $2.98 so I won't complain too much.

Cheers

I also have a Cannonball Adderley and the Poll Winners album from the same time period. Haven't played it in awhile, and I don't think it has the same Poll Winners mentioned above, but it was still damn good. See it in the brick and mortars all the time. Get it!

Agreed! I dropped ~$100 (30 CDs) to get the $2.98/CD deal. Mostly on 20-bit K2 jazz sessions (Blakey, Hawes, Rollins, Monk, Garland) but also some blues and most of the CCR catalog.

GREAT prices, but SLOW shipping!

There is a big long thread on this sale over on the Organissimo Jazz forum.

My Concord order and my refurbished Sansui AU-D11 mkII amp arrived within a day of each other, so I have plenty of new tunes to try out the new amp with!

Yes, slow indeed. I attribute that to a combination of things. I think they are/were understaffed and they've received a huge amount of orders with each order having 30+ items in it. My first order was placed July 13th and I received it on July 27th but the second order placed a day later (July 14th) did not arrive until August 8th. And I placed a third order on July 19th and I have no idea when that will show up. But, they are showing up and I'll gladly live with the slower service for these prices.

Thirty ceedees for under $100 is tough to pass up but I also understand not everybody has an extra c-note to splurge on music.

Congrats on getting your AU-D11II back. I have one of those myself and would never part with it. I'll have to check out that Organissimo thread. Thanks.
