Since we've got a lot of new blood, and since the question was raised, is there a forum that we don't have that you'd love to see?

Saw the 'porn' option after I already voted. ;) Damn...

In a nutshell, I think the forum is peachy. Already jumping from forum to forum a lot just to keep up. More would be a PITA...

Just click on the 'View new posts' on the welcome page... add that page to your favorites in the Internet explorer.

then set an icon on your desktop for that page. Then everytime you want to come to AK you just hit the icon ..and it takes you right there...

.... It shows you all the new posts in all forums ...then you don't have to jump from forum to forum... Just from thread to thread.... then you'll be a postin maniac LOL....:nutz:

Pioneer or Porn, hmm
Can we combine , some nice chick sitting on a silver Pioneer and then discuss the "models" and figures of both subjects to compariosion with expanding silicone and fat-reductions surgery for more pleasant power and speed maybe ?
Of course nude pictures of the Pioneer gear is allowed right ?:D

I'd love an "Vintage Altec Lansing Speaker" forum, functionally AK is by far the best, things like picture posting, e-mail notifications, etc just can't be found at the existing Altec forum. I'm not knocking the other forum out there but I guess I'm "spoiled" by AK and the work the moderators and administrators have done here, it's excellent, I couldn't do better. I do think the existing Altec forum provides some excellent information but I'm sure it has much less budget and following. That's my $.02, keep up the excellent work on this forum!! :)

Hey Kam...I was beginning to wonder if you were losing control of this thread. ;)

I went with Technical & Test Procedures. I think there's a big opportunity, especially since you mentioned beginners. Easy to fry bits on your SS amp, easy to fry yourself on your tube amp if you're not at least a little bit informed.

Plus, and I think this is a big one, for those of us not blessed with dual-trace scopes, signal generators, and ESR bridges, much less the knowledge to use them, there's a ton of basic testing you can do with a decent $50 DMM, if you have a how-to checklist to follow.

There was some discussion if a technical and DIY forums being on the same site would end up crossing paths, so this gives me an idea......

One of my other addictions is old radios. Don't know if you've ever heard of it, but the best spot on the net is Antique Radios.com. It's a group much like AK, nice, friendly, helpful, full of experienced and dedicated hobbyists, and no flame wars. They also have a Test Equipment section. Try this: http://antiqueradios.com/cgi-bin/forums/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=Test+Equipment+Forum&number=8&DaysPrune=20&LastLogin=

I don't think you have to register...it's been so long I don't remember. Anyway, it'll give you a feel for what I'm talking about.

I would like to view a Forum on just the tube itself.

Example: Telefunken smooth plate 12AX7 in amp 'X' and the effect on the sound.

I think a "Cable" section would be a VERY good idea....there are so many brands and types and levels of each brand....also a "Cable DIY" under cables would also be a good idea......just been looking over the Chris Ven Haus web site recently and if I replaced just my AC cables with his designs I could save at least $300.00 by DIYing instead of purchasing the finished product....thats a "Chunk-O-Change" to me.......just my opinion...one of many other voices.............:thmbsp:

Also I did see a suggestion about having a section on JBL/Altec Lansing...........there is already a web site dedicated to those products and VERY good one I might add (http://audioheritage.csdco.com).......it takes alot to maintain a web site like AudioKarma (my hat is off to those who keep it running):huge: Just want to say thanks and keep up the good work......

Back to the question though, a "tweeking" section would be nice...reduction of vibrations, noise, cable isolation, ect....that sort of thing...........that would seperate Tweeking DIY's from the DIY's that are equipment related (getting inside the gear and that sort of thing)....just a thought...........

Looks like I may have hit a nerve:) with my posting of EBAY LP auctions that I felt may have been of interest to folks in the local areas. As I also see a number of posting for "deals" on the craig list also... Why not have a forum just for EBAY / Craig List / ETC. / ETC. deals that folks in the listing area might be interested in. I see BIG LP lots and HEAVY audio equipment going the way of local pick-up with the rising gas cost.... Shipping cost may start to kill some of the high bids, and if an individual is local that may be the ticket to some good deals in LPs, equipment, speakers or whatever...

I have to go with the tech stuff. My handicap. Can't really fix anything inside Like replacing caps in speakers or know how to figure out problems. I keep reading info already on the site. Just still chicken. I have to pass up a lot of gear because I can't fix a simple problem.

There have been requests for an Online auction (eBay, CL, etc.) forum previously. The pros and cons could kill the AK bandwidth for days...

As soon as a specific mfr is spun off to a new forum those that only visit Vintage Audio would miss posts that may they might otherwise provide comments on.

My 2¢.

The test equipment/procedures forum would be a great idea, if it could be distinct enough from the DIY forum.

If AK is gonna have vintage gear specific forums (Sansui, Pioneer, etc.) I always had a soft spot in my heart for Kenwood.

Just my $.02

Well, couldn't it then be put in as a sub-forum of the DIY forum like how Music Reviews is sub to the main Music forum? It could work on the same principle, even. To that end, how about something similar for the Speaker forum, a sub-forum to post speaker reviews and specific information concerning repairs where the information is put up there for people to access and read as a library without additional posts.

Now, I wouldn't mind seeing a vintage audio exotica forum, something for all the oddballs and rarities, but I doubt there'd be enough traffic/posts to make it worth the effort.

I woudl like to se a bit more granularity in the user classifieds, a structure something like the overall forum. This is to make it easier to locate a specific item or brand that i woudl be looking for.

Thanks for the forum as it is...

Nah, this is Audio Karma. The first thread will be something in line with "What's your favorite porn music?" Having listened to Ron Jeremy's Pornosonic, I'll still have to give the nod to 101 Strings Exotic Sounds of Love feat. Bebe Barber (pornstar).

How about a "Receivers" forum? I miss a lot of interesting receivers on the Pioneer, McIntosh and Sansui forums as I don't follow these, but do have interest in their receivers. Every company's receivers are different enough from their other gear (tuners, preamps and amps) that they really have little in common. Thus, a "Receivers" forum would put all the receiverophiles together.

Kamakiri
12-02-2005, 06:58 PM
Agreed, but there you get to the point where you dilute Vintage so much, that what's left?

The only real advantage to individual forums is that it makes it nice for those of that particular interest to subscribe to a whole forum and then they get notification of all new threads in that forum.

Since this is a pretty large forum, and there are a lot of people here, let's start petitions. If you can get 100 members in one thread in favor of creating a forum, we'll put it up on a trial and I will move posts appropriately to that forum from the rest of the board. Since that represents less than 1% of AK total, and probably 20% of the regulars here, feel free to create a thread and let's see where it goes....

Sound cool? :)

A dedicated swap forum, I know we have the free ad section for that but they just
don't seem to work that great or have as much traffic as a dedicated forum would.

A lot of us have extra stuff we could swap around and try some new gear or move
on something that's just sitting around that someone should be using.

Hi Tim,

As the more popular requests suggest; yes, I think more technical repair and procedures section. This does not have to be an open forum but for the Gurus to post their instructions on how to repair and maintain general audio issues.

Just simple basic stuff like how to take the face plate off a SX-939, general cleaning, how to de-oxit, general trouble-shooting etc. I am sure there are many like me who knows nothing about these things!

Thank you :-)
