5002 Advents, bullnose, walnut veneer, in top shape worth $100? Not mine but considering buying. No doubt need new surrounds.

A little high... $100 with good surrounds or $50 without. They do sound great.

I paid more then that for Merrylander refurbished 5012s. They are easily worth $100 for their sound.

This speaker seems to be a bit of a mystery as many seem to feel it actually bests the Large Advent, but it usually sells for much less. That being said, $100 may be a bit high, but like ExJxC said, you'll get your moneys worth in what you hear.

I'm one that will say that and I have compared them to several pairs of the new large advents- utility, wood, new foam, old foam even one with a the newer dome tweeter but that was just one speaker. Never messed with caps.

I already have a pair of 5012's, solid walnut molding (bullnose), walnut veneer, that I recently recapped and refoamed. Total cost minus my time was < $85.00. I am considering a 2nd pair to stack and don't know how the 5002's would do.

The 5002 and 5012 are the same except for the cabinet. Think of the 5002 as the utility and the 5012 as the walnut veneer bulnose

I would assume considering driver compliment, cabinet volume and the like being the same, they'd sound the same. I've never owned a pair of 5012, but had many pair of 5002.

The 5002's I'm looking at are walnut veneer.

Need an opinion here. There are a few mentions in this thread and in a search that the 5002's were vinyl clad and not wood walnut veneer. Seller claims his are walnut veneer. Here is a picture. It's hard for me to really tell but the way the light bounces it looks like vinyl?? Were any 5002's made with walnut cabinets? Not able to upload pic for some reason.

AFAIK....

ALL 5002 advents were vinyl covered like the original utilities. The 5012 is the only advent in that series that had real veneer on it.

So either the seller is unsure what veneer looks like and has 5002, or the seller really has 5012. Have you seen them in person yet? Are they for sale locally or on epray? gota link?

Jordan, here's the link: http://worcester.craigslist.org/ele/353634343.html
Note what appears to be "plant pot mark" on the top and the bullnose tybe molding in front both typical of wood veneer.

He has sent me a pic with the grills off and they are definitely 5002's. But the light bounces off suspiciously like vinyl but it's tough to tell.

Well, my 5002s are bullnose and vinyl, and I would assume his are too.

Correction, my Advents are not 5012's, they are 1973 Original "Large" Advents. The Advent model history is still somewhat confusing to me.

I tend to agree with you. I asked the seller specifically wood or vinyl and would hope he knew the difference but maybe not.

Perhaps, but if I bought another pair I would want them to match closely my Original Advents and that means wood veneer. They must be close to you though.
